B&O Beomaster 2000 better than Cambridge Aud A1?
Discussion
Or are my expectations too high?
Might be being dazzled by the novelty of a Bang and Olufsen product but my A1 amp sounds not so good on the odd occasion I play things loud.
I'll still use the A1 amp somewhere else in the house but any excuse to buy a decent amp and I'm there.
Just interested in other opinions.
Cheers.

Well I have really gone crazy and jolly well bought it.
Really nice bit of kit.
Pleasant family who I bought it from and all that jazz.
The bonus for me was remembering I have my late Grandfather's Danish made hifi speakers sitting in my workshop. Correct connecters too.
Sounds great, looks great and I'm chuffed.
Nice day out shopping too with with lovely lady.
Who could ask for more?

I'm a huge B&O fan. Got a few bits and bobs from them. Great quality and I really like it. Enjoy. Sadly some of the new B&O Play stuff is made in China. The Beomaster will be made in Struer, Denmark.
If you really get into it, pop into the Beoworld forum
Thanks for the invite. If you really get into it, pop into the Beoworld forum

What a nice bit of kit it is. Weighs more than a small child. Has that nice feeling of using something a bit special like you get with certain cars.
I'll check out Beoworld soon.
I used to repair B&O stuff back in the 80's.
Some of their upper range stuff from back then was really good and very competently designed.
Repairing it however, was an arse, as it was really difficult to gain access to the innards.
Having said that, I would venture that the Cambridge probably sounds as good (if not better), particularly as B&O kit of that age could probably do with re-capping, as due to it's compact design, many of the capacitors used to operate at slightly higher than ideal temperatures resulting in faster deterioration than normal.
At best, the Cambridge will likely sound more natural, with the B&O yielding a slightly warmer sound.

Hmm interesting post above. Thank you for that.
I've kept the Cambridge Audio downstairs in my 'man room' with the RicherSounds floor speakers. It is bi-wired. That is the extent of my hi-fi knowledge!
The B&O I have upstairs and is teamed up with some same-era Bush speakers. They were my Dad's, then my Gramp's, then I've had them sitting around unused as have different connectors, and the hi-fi they came with has stopped working. I suspect a dry joint.
Anyway, I now have an all-Danish system upstairs. Really good sound to be honest.
The Cambridge Audio system is great, but on higher volume sounds a bit tinny. Might be the room though, as no carpet etc.
Just like a blast every now and then. But both are great. Paid a total of £200 for CD player, amp, speakers, wires and recent B&O amp.
Top value, and good memories live on.
