He was a real petrol head and did loads for charity. Very sad but I guess he died doing what he loved.

I'd settle for quietly in my sleep.

It can be a tricky car to drive, but I would not have called it dangerous. It the kind of car that needs respect and warm tires though. My impression is that sometimes people jump in on cold rubber and let the thing rip. I have no idea of the circumstances in this case, but having driven a CGT fairly hard, (but not at the level of a professional driver), I found it to be a very exciting ,communicative car. Very sad news about the driver and passenger.

We dont know the actual cause yet, and of course may never do. It could be a puncture or something else that the driver had no control of.

This ^

Irrespective of the how's and why's, it's a tragic waste of a life.

I think it fair to say they may have a bit of a reputation. Herr Rohrl said it was "tricky on the limit". He had some fairly big moments during testing. I seem to remember he might have written one/two ? off whilst testing ? (a quick search on Google seems to confirm this)

If Rohrl can pilot a 680hp S1 Quattro up Pikes Peak in under 11 minutes (42 seconds onwards)

and drive basically the same car over the French Alps, often on sheet ice, during the 1986 Monte Carlo rally (won it four times, each time in different cars) (44 seconds onwards)

you can rest assured, that if he says they're "tricky on the limit", they are.

Does the car have any handling control systems like PSM?

Second last.

Last was the 997.1RS..already in production when the California lawsuit was decided. A guy went out on a track with a CGT and he and his passenger were killed in a track day. No mechanical failures. Jury found many people liable including Porsche ( minor participant...$300k fine), but it set the direction and now all cars have stability control.

Shocked & really sad to hear that both Paul Walker & the driver had passed away .Terrible news for both families to bear .
When I found out they died whilst driving/riding in a GT Carrera I could only help but think that maybe the GT Carrera should now take from the GT2's mantle the notorious ' Widowmaker' name ?

In two minds on whether to enter this debate, but probably worth mentioning that several on here have driven CGTs many thousand miles without incident. It's true that they can be snappy on the limit (on the sport, not supersport tyres) and you definitely have be awake to catch it. I'd question whether a public road is the place to find that limit, but it's tragic nonetheless.

From the pictures I saw at the weekend, the impact must have been pretty heavy, and I'm dubious whether any sort of electronic safety net could have caught it. Overused term, widowmaker.

Does anyone have any info on the driver of the GT. Someone at work has said he was a pro driver?
