Re-trim / seats
Discussion
I'm thinking about having my wedge re-trimmed leather/vinyl and just seen the Blue SEAC that's just been put up for sale, and I love the recaro seats. They look like they are out of a ford, has anyone any ideas how easy/hard it would be to change to these and what would be involved?
Any help on seat models, fitting, anything basically to get me a set of those babys in my car.
Cheers Taffo

Hi Taffo
My FHC has the same seats fitted. Well Cobra copies anyway. It's just a case of re drilling the runners to suit original holes in the floor. Or new holes in the floor.
The only thing I would say against the seats is they are a little higher than standards seat bases. So my head is a bit to close to the roof. Not an issue in a DHC. :-D
Very firm and comfy though.

When you say they are a bit high, how does this effect leg clearance with the steering wheel, being thick of thigh
wondering if would be right for me.
Yeah you might struggle a bit, I'm slim on the thigh, but I wouldn't like to be any bigger,
wondering if would be right for me.They are a squeeze as well, the door handle pushes up against the seat,
but IMHO I think they look great, so worth it.

The previous owner of my car was... shall we say, circumferentially disadvantaged
... so he fitted a steering wheel which is 'flat' at the bottom to allow more room between rim and seat.
ETA not a brilliant pic. but you get the idea...

Ummm already got one of those!!

Love the bezels round the clocks! Can ya buy them, or was it just a standard on that car?

I bought them from Karl Cordwell (Red SEAC side exit exhaust) years ago when he was making shinny bits for wedges, got the gear knob and handbrake too. Don't think you can get them any more, but someone might prove me wrong??Rik
Don't know about different tunnel widths. mine is a 1982 280, the side of the seats have about a half inch gap between the seat and tunnel, but the door trim touches the seat, it doesnt push against or press it, just touches.
i couldnt move the seat towards the tunnel as the tunnel funnels out towards the dash, if you see what i mean.
but, well worth it, my seats do seem to be the same as the seac (albeit without the excellent trim), and as i said above, they are damn comfy, and hold you in fine around the bends.
