As per the subject really, just trying to get a feel for what is the norm.

I know there's no "right" answer to this, and of course being PH everyone buys their houses cash because borrowing is bad biggrin

A very rough calculation as we both get paid 4 weekly rather than monthly but i estimate approx 17-18% of out joint take home.

And in answer to the question posed below. Deposit was 40%

No the question is what proportion of your household take home pay your monthly mortgage payment is.

i.e. take home £2k pay £500/month = 25%

About 30% of the joint take home.
We need both salaries to cover all our household bills but then we included childcare in that which is nearly as much as the mortgage. The lad starts school in September so that will drop the bills by about £400 a month. About the time our current fix ends...

Just under 20% of our joint income, but were on a fixed rate that in retrospect was a bad idea.

40%+ overpaying like crazy at the moment though , could drop down to about 30%.

Single wage with stay at home wife and 2 small children. And I wonder why we are back at £0 at then end of the month!

No, the question is how much of your take home do you keep after mortgage payments. So in your example it's 75% smile

12% of joint income (house is small though, I'd rather spend on cars and holidays)

Now its 23% of single income. When I first started about 6 years ago it was more like 45% - that wasn't easy.

13% without overpayment, 17% with. I intend to increase my overpayment soon.
