If you had to chance to swap your current car for its original, would you do it and could it do the same job for you as its modern evolution?

For example, you have a VW Golf GTI today but would you take a 1970s original MK1?

Personally I'd find it very easy to swap my current STI for a 1993 model as I think going back to a more basic experience would be extremely satisfying.

And you?

It wouldn't be a huge difference for me, but no... having spent quite a lot of time in both, I think the S2 is just a better car than the S1. I'd swap it for an Elan or almost anything earlier, though. smile

The wife's Octavia is also vastly better than the mk1, IMO.

Yeah, I'd probably swap mine for an E28 M5 - they are just achingly cool (to me anyway).

Cheers,

Absolutely not. My 997.2 911 is far more appealing to me than the original 911 and if I had enough disposable income at the moment and no other expensive priorities, I'd have a 991 911.

I have a Volvo V40 D3 and wouldn't swap it for the older V/S 40, no. However my weekend/soon to be track car is an 11 plate Clio Sport, can I swap that for a minter Williams if so..... Maybe, even if it's worth more, I seriously would like a Williams Clio at some point.

MK3 MX5, if it was a trade in the sense that I can have a brand new one then yes I probably would since the MK1 is the only one I haven't owned yet.

Have you seen the value of original 911s.

You could trade your 997 for an original 911, sell that for double the money, buy a 991 of your choice and still have plenty of cash left to top up your pension........

Whilst this is true, I feel it wasn't the intention of the tread. If it was, the title should have been "is your current car less valuable than the original?". hehe

You can keep the '91 Astra ta, but I'd happily take a '37 Opel Kadett in exchange for my '00 Astra. The true original. They must be worth a couple of quid to somebody.

If it's a Fiat Dino, you'd be onto a winner:
