Asking for a friend, who is looking to buy for their son for Xmas.
What are the advantages or disadvantages of either one. The 4Gb is £20 cheaper, and you have to buy a controller with the 250 Gb, so in fact the 4Gb is closer to £50 cheaper.

Which one is better and for what reasons ?

I'd say go for the 250Gb one - 4Gb isn't much space at all for downloading DLC/Games and although you can use USB storage having the 250Gb drive makes everything much more straightforward.

Why do you have to buy a controller? The 250gb comes with one.

The 4gb will work fine for a lot of games, but some require an amount of hard drive space to run. For example, GTA 5 needs about 8gb, so wouldn't work.

Apparently, you can use a USB flash drive up to 32gb as a surrogate, but then these cost money too.

Just get the 250gb and never have to worry about available space.

4GB will be used up in no time at all. Get the 250. Unless you are able to upgrade the HD yourself cheaply and easily.

as all others have said. 4gb is tiny. a few compulsory updates and a few DLCs would use all that. GTA 5 uses over 7gb just to install. also you do get a controller with the 250gb, they wouldnt sell a console with no controller.
