Does the 4.5 pop and bang more than the 4.2? And erm, what are clatter cams?

Clatter cams are the old style cams used in earlier cars. Funnily enough, they clatter more.

Donut know if a 4.5 pops and bangs more than a 4.2 on average, but my 4.2 would bang on demand. Not quite like the Tuscan where you can even force a "super bang" out of it every few minutes, though...

As JSG said about the clatter cams.

I'm only comparing between my two cars as regards the pops and bangs. I've got a video of my old Cerbera 4.5 going through the Tyne Tunnel with a standard exhaust on. The only way I can get my 4.2 to sound like that is if I take the cats off and rev it over 3k.

Olly has a video on his site of a 4.2(?from memory?) Cerbera going through a tunnel and it sounds like it pops and bangs more on demand, a bit like my old 4.5 did.

It might just be my Cerb thats a bit quieter than most

You mean this vid ! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tvr-cerbera/duxford/MOV00006.MPG

It's a 4.2 with a sports exhaust (and from memory a growing hole in the exhaust, which made it even louder, but didn't make any difference to the pops & bangs).

I think 4.2's & 4.5's pop & bang as much as eachother, but a sports exhaust makes them both do it a lot more easily/often !

No, the 4.5 pops & bangs much more. Definitely a reason to get it over the 4.2 .

You're not going to like this, but the Speed 6 Cerb pops & bangs more than both V8's (when it's working)!

With no rebuild?

I'd look at getting a warranty for that car if you haven't already... one that'll cover wear and tear and everything under the Sun, etc.

Can anyone comment on whether or not Mark Adams/Paul might be able to remap my V8S to sound like that? I asked them to try, last RR session, but my injectors need to be cleaned so we didn't get there in the end.

But after my RV8 injectors are cleaned, is it likely with another RR session, my car might be remapped to achieve even half the popping thats going on in that video?

If you didn't know what engine size the two Cerb's were in each of the videos here and here

Would you be able to tell by the sound?

you'll have to ignore the fact that the first one has revs low down and the second has revs high up when they are pootling along.

I'll second that as mine even pops and bangs on each gear change. BRILL

my 4.2 used to pop and bang to order - its decatted and sports pipes

when I had it serviced I was told it could be made to pop and bang more or less or belch fire!!

It now pops on overrun but not all the time as it was pre service ... but now runs smoother also!

quite a few cerbs have scorch marks around exhaust exits ... serious popping cant be good for cats either
(good excuse to remove them!)

My 4.5 RR would do it on demand with the factory exhuast but without the gusto and lowdown noise it does not with a sports exhaust

Going through the Bluewater carpark yesterday and setting off multiple alarms was akin to losing my cherry

No chance! Absolutely no way, at least, not one I've ever driven/been driven in. Maybe with sports exhaust? But the 4.5 does it loads even fully standard. Lovely - never tired of it in 3 years... and still miss it! Erise/motorbike/Radical need a lot of provocation, Cerbie did it every time you lifted off....

Gotta agree with that, the S6 Cerbs I've driven have been so civilised compared to V8s.
