I'm starting to think about my kitchen and am getting utterly bewildered by the cooker options. I've settled on a Rangemaster range as the best of the less eye-wateringly expensive brands but have got stuck after that.

I've done up two kitchens before. The first had a 900 Smeg range with a big single oven. It meant I could cook a vast meal as long as I didn't want a seperate grill or different temperatures. It also had a full width grill which was great for hungover breakfasts for loads of guests. I had a Combi microwave/oven too which added versatility.

The next one I had a 900 5 burner hob and a pair of standard size ovens. This was more versatile than the single big oven, but I rarely used one of the ovens for anything other than grilling. The 5 burner hob was occasionally a bit crowded if I was making gravy in the roasting tin but it was rare I'd use more than 3 burners at a time.

I'm considering two options: a 110 double oven plus grill or a 900 with standard oven, seperate grill and tall narrow oven. Or as we don't have gas and want induction I could have a row of hobs on an island and one or more ovens.

So, what do you have? What do you use? And what would you like?

I have a five burner hob with a single door 900mm oven.

Then opposite it, a built-in 600mm double oven with grill and then a microwave above that.

I couldn't imagine only having a 600mm wide oven; useless for baking cakes or doing large roasts.

8 burners, relatively pointless...however:

Big ones are better than little burners as you can turn them down.

Electric fan oven, quick but burns
Electric non fan second, slow but great for buns and warming

Electric grill great

Handy pan store

Glass front a bugger to keep clean

Good point^ - if you buy a fan oven, make sure it has the option to not use the fan. Fan is fine for 'fast food': oven chips type stuff. But if you want to cook a pizza or cake perfectly, a fan will just scorch it.

I have a Falcon 900 Deluxe, 5 burners, two electric fan ovens, one oven 429 x 380 x 380 mm and the other 275 x 385 x 565 mm (internal dimensions).

That is pretty much big enough for anything. If I'm cooking a roast for lots of people, for example, the meat tends to go in the big oven with a tray of spuds, then the small oven can be used for roast parsnips, stuffing etc.

Before you decide on a Rangemaster ring Falcon up and see if they have any ex-display ones. I bought that way and it was cheaper than the equivalent Rangemaster. Falcon are made by AGA so they are built like a tanks.

Most traybake trays are too big.

Yep.

The cooker is 900 wide, so the single door oven is part of that.

Don't always want to heat up that huge space though, so use the other one for smaller stuff.

eek Who do you bake for? I've acquired a 500 wide cooker to see me through and I can get a full size roasting tin in that.

Agreed. I also think that roasts are better on the 'non-fan' setting.

I'd also get an oven with a warming drawer or just the facility to be kept very low for warming plates and serving dishes. I don't mind a house being cold (mine is) but I can't stand cold plates.

Had a Rangemaster Excel 1100 in my house, and it's bob on. Has 3 ovens, 1x rapid heat (69ltr), 1x normal (69ltr), 1x slow cooker (21ltr) and grill. There are 5 gas burners on the hob, and 1 electric dual zone rings for the griddle/plate warming.

Brilliant bit of kit.

Neff do flexinduction so you have zones that can have one or multiple pans on them. We have two flexinduction zones.

What I want and what I have are two very different things. If I was to design my perfect kitchen then I would have a Gaggenau Induction Field plus two gas burners. Integrated deep fat fryer and the newest Rational combi oven 61 or 62. Industrial grade metal tops and storage units and a non slip tiled floor with drainage. All I need is about 60, 000 pounds.

Ive got a 1200 Fisher and Paykel dual fuel range, 6 burners and 2 full fan and full size ovens, plus a 45cm compact combination micro and full fan oven.

Just in the process of specing my new kitchen, and im thinking, 900 induction hob, with a 6.4KW gas wok burner and a seperate BBQ plus will have 2 x built in single pyro ovens and another combi oven microwave.... fed up with the ovens under the hob, and I want the cooking to be done in the island unit and not against the wall.

Four hobs on an electric "burner" and a fan oven. There is a microwave in there too!

We have a standard 4 burner hob, twin cavity double oven, combination microwave and outside a webber BBQ and Hot Wok burner.

In our old house we did have a Smeg hob with wok ring which was OK but the hot wok ring is much better.

Definitely a high spec of appliances, but where the hell does she do any prep work? There's hardly any work surface. and the sink is almost touching the hob! Not much more space to be used though, so possibly the best that could have been done...

What is not visible in the picture is 3 ft of granite workspace in front of the window as prep area (2 ovens and a bit wide opposite the them) and 90cm x 90cm of corian adjacent to it for pastry making that my mother does, under the corian hides the washing machine and dryer, just that not all of it is useable space only 90x90 of corian opposite the ovens and to the right if standing with your back to the ovens.

Plenty of room for any dinners we make and can have 3 people all cooking at the same time.
