So, a few hundred miles after fitting the new 300mm front discs, 4 pot calipers, and DS2500 pads I started to get judder through the steering wheel under light braking. A 'stab' on the pedal seemed to stop the judder. Then it started to get worse, more judder/vibration through the wheel and at higher speeds, although again, heavy braking seemed to significantly reduce it. Then I did a track day. Well, half a track day actually. If I'm honest, it was a total of no more than about 10 laps. Proper heavy braking from high speed (100 plus) was desperate, so I withdrew the car.

Thoughts are run out, possibly warped discs, and my intention is to get the discs skimmed on car.

Prior to booking this I thought I'd do a bit of research, so entered DS2500 pads and judder into the PH search facility. Lots came up, and the thread below is particularly interesting

So, if you've got, or are thinking of getting DS2500 pads you should find this quite interesting....

This is what I believe it to be, although it's not visibly obvious...

Six years and 35 K miles on DS2500s, all normal road driving, probably 85% motorways, never had the problem.

Simon, If the run out is, er, out, then why no judder during the first several hundred miles of use?

Also, is there an allowable tolerance for run out? Would such a tolerance be dependent on which discs/calipers etc you had?

confused

I only really brake when the passenger seat is empty and I want the person behind to share the “TVR” experience ;-)

Yes my car is 12 years old and the engine was designed in the fifties, but can still out accelerate and out brake your <insert appropriate tail gating vehicle model >, mate!

After 8 years with DS2500 pads (Honda, Honda, Ford, TVR) I haven’t had any juddering problems (just heck of lot of brake dust and the usual squeal when bedding in), but perhaps that’s because I have always use them inconjunction with Tarox 40 groove disc’s which re-cut the pads surface ?

I think your problem may more be the big discs and pad surface area... might be overspecced for road use & you're never getting any decent temperature in them.

I replaced my front (283mm) discs and pads a few months ago, my repeated judder came back after a short while. Last week I had the discs 'pro cut' on the car, new ferodo DS all round and new discs on the back.
A couple of miles in with some spirited driving and all is well.
I got to watch the pro cut machine working and the high spots/areas were quite staggering, upto half the disc being cut while the other half not.

I guess only time will tell how successful it will all be.

Hmmmm. read the judder thread.

Mine were fitted and the next thing I did was take the car 100 miles to Snetterton and then give them a thorough workout.

Maybe I was therefore lucky and bedded them in without glazing? Nobody warned me there might be an issue, or I would have passed it on. No bedding in instructions with the pads.

I have had no judder, just a light squeak occasionally.

Chilli, you could try a set of basic road pads in place of the front Ferodos and see if the same happens......or have the discs skimmed.

Hhmm - no judder on mine but I did bed them in as per instruction. squealed like a stuffed pig initially when warm but TD at Snett appears to have cured it.
