Hi folks,

As per title really. My girlfriend and I have sold our houses and purchased another one. For the life of me I can;t figure out how to work out who gets what from the remaining money.

Me: x
Her: y
Total money on account: z

'x' is the number left over from my sale and all associated bills and 'y' is the same from the sale of hers. As we have bought a house together the final statement has arrived with those 2 figures on as well as the total money that is still help on account 'z'.

As my amount was more than her amount it is not a 50:50 split. I hope that all makes sense and I'm sure it's an easy equation, but it's escaping me at the moment confused

Suggest putting it in a joint account to her then revel in some man points?

(1/z x) z is your share though unless I'm being special too.

I don't understand the question.

x is what's left over from your sale.
y is what's left over from her sale.

Both figures of which are clearly stated according to your OP.

What's the question?

I'm honestly not trolling here....

However if you're worried about this already after buying in together - might I suggest kids and marriage wait for a few years...!!!

This. I never understand couples who will share bodily fluids but not a bit of cash. "With all my worldly goods I thee share" my arse.

I didn't think the question looked to clear when I typed it, figured it out now anyway. All I needed was to figure out the percentage split. Both the remaining amounts had been put in 1 pot before the deposit was taken out, hence why it wasn't just a even split. The deposit was an equal split but the contribution to the pot was different, so what I needed to know was what percentage of the total our 2 contributions were.

As for the other comments, we share everything and quite frankly, you don't know the situation. We have both come from other relationships and money needs to be divided between other people so when it comes to the house sales, what's hers is hers and mine is mine.

I similarly cant see why its an issue to have split accounts and contribute equally to a joint account, especially whilst not being married or having kids.
It's all too easy overspending, or underworking when there is someone else's money to spend.
There is also less guilt or explanation required when you need to buy something big, or considered pointless by the other half.

so your share = x-(deposit/2), her share = y-(deposit/2) presumably?
