On BBC news this morning, apparently Drink-Driving at an all time high and been on the increase for the last 8 years. Up 33% in England and 50% in N. Ireland.
They showed a cop with a hand held speed detection device pulling a motorist with the announcement 'Speeding....so probably drunk' ??? and they wonder why Drink Driving is on the increase - they haven't got a f

Not really the trickiest thing to figure out.
Two pints isn't going to make anyone crash.
And its right, there are hardly any trafpol around outside major cities these days. Plot, lost, completely.

Ahhh now. Lets not get too worked up.
I know some people don't think so but I see a world of difference between co-workers enjoying a beer together before going home on a Friday and feckless scrotes who don't give a toss who are prepared to get completely smashed and then drive.
We should not lump both categories in together. IMO.
Bryan35: Surely you didn't mean to suggest you consider driving whilst knowingly over the limit? That would be utterly reprehensible - even if the chances of being caught are minimal. If what you meant was you feel happy to enjoy a pint (and possibly a half) before driving home and feel it is safe to do so then I understand.

How many drivers have points on their licence - tens of thousands, millions? ...and they were probably all drunk! Even less respect now for some puppet enforcers

To be fair it wasn't the cop that made the comment but the reporter......however it was the cop using the speed gun
Never the less the comment was made on national TV. and wasn't it once mentioned that certain Police bosses were targeting people with points as potential criminals for other offences, something to do with "the kind of person who breaks one law is more likely not to respect others".
I have points on my licence but never drink & drive, (not even 1 drink) and have never robbed/mugged anyone etc. but never the less I am a Criminal who has been to court for my heinous crime - I always had respect for the law & Police but now that's fast disappearing and there must be many more that feel like I do
why do the powers that be not see this? could it be that they are looking through revenue-tinted spectacles? is the Scam money that important that they are prepared to ruin this country for it? And do they not think that anyone who is knowingly over the limit will just drive slowly

The media talk a load of bollox at the best of times...i'm not in the bit surpised by what you've said...
The film footage could have been for a speeding story, but the editor decided to put it on the drink driving report...because it involved a traffic policeman....

Tired?
Any reasonable amount of alcohol will affect your ability to judge a situation and how to deal with it.
Those 2 pints might make the difference between a decision that saves you or a decision that does not!

"...because it involved a traffic policeman...." breathylising his 'catch' who, incidentally hadn't been drinking.
But thousands of 'potential Drink-drivers' will have seen that report and perhaps taken the advice and thousands of law abiding citizens will have seen it and thought 'speeding the root of all evil today' - a major contribution to road safety
And yes, I agree that the media talk 'a load of bollox' but then so do politicians - a breed which includes many top Police Officers.

Ironically, according to a former west mercia policeman I know, one of the easiest way to spot drink drivers around closing time is to look out for cars doing 30mph on the nail perfectly aligned in the middle of their lane. Driver is concentrating like fury because they know they are half pissed.

The problem they have is that while they are concentrating so hard on the speed limit to be at 30mph on the nail, they forget about the rest of it!
Constantly touching the brake pedal to get the speed back down. Unecessary braking for minimal hazards.
Forgetting to steer in an appropriate way for the road they happen to be on etc!
