The little emperor is bored of the VX (see recent car pool), and has told me to get a Westfield XTR2 to take him to nursery.

Should I give in to his wishes? Anyone owned one or know whether a babyseat will fit?

(Admittedly, he can't talk yet, or even walk properly, but I can tell he wants me to do it)

I currently own 15 kit cars including three Westfields. I would not suggest any of them are suitable for the safe transport of a small child. Without being a spoilsport I suggest your view of the suitability is likely to be more relevant than your small offspring in this case. It might be possible to fit child seats but personally I would strongly advise such a use an not offering reasonable care.

No, you need something weighing at least 2 tons to transport a 10kg child.

As above...we all know as soon as a child arrives in the family only the biggest 4x4 will do.

Airbags are dangerous for small ones.

Ultra strong chassis - to protect your little one sounds very paternal.

Mum's net will approve.

Definitely. Get Recaro to make you a sprog bucket that bolts in back to front and jobs a good'un - providing a 6-point can also harness the copious quants of vomit generated (or just leave the floor panel out on that side of the cockpit)

I had a Mk1 mx5 and my wee one loved it, number 2 came along so I had to get 205 gti (with a gti 6 engine).
I'd say go for it!

My 5 year old liked the G33, when she was 9 she hated the Tuscan, now she's 13 she won't be seen dead with me so it doesn't matter smile

My daughter loved being taken to nursery in my 40 year old MGB. Maybe slightly more sensible than a Westfield but definitely out of place in the car park where most were big 4x4's weighing double that of the B. smile

No stupid idea. How much weather protection does and XTR2 have? So if the weather takes and unexpected turn for the worse junior is going to get soaking wet. It also won't protect junior from the sun. No you don't need 2 tonnes of 4x4, but i'd suggest a roof of some sort is a minimum requirement.

Lol at the comments.

We have a Honda CRV and a VWT5 for regular duties.

He loves the VX, but I'm finding it a little introverted. Lol

Collect my 8 year old in the 42 year old Mini rally car or the TVR Wedge (or the Volvo 940 Estate), ALL (and I mean all of which are dwarfed by most other trucks in the car park.

I was told off for collecting darling daughter from swimming pool, when it was minus 3 outside, in the MX5 with the top down.

Her hair froze solid on the way home, and she wasn't happy. Bloody 16 year olds for you. KNesh.

What are you going to do about helmet and hearing protection? Anything with an aeroscreen gets pretty noisy and it would be a shame (and perhaps a little irresponsible) to knacker his hearing.

Personally I'd wait until he's at least 5 or 6 (into booster seats instead of full blown baby seats) and can talk to you via an intercom.

I arrived at nursery one morning last year in the wet and dark with my 9 month old daughter in her rearward facing child seat in my triumph spitfire.

Would we have been squished had we been run over by a truck? Yes, but guess what - life isn't safe. I'd made the safety precautions prescribed by law (used a child seat) and drove sensibly. Did we have fun? Absolutely. She loved it, it was the first time she was able to see me when she was in the car (normally rear ward facing and in the back)

I'll continue to do fun things with her as she grows up, and when she's old enough I'll explain that it's important to understand and manage risk. I didn't grow up wrapped in cotton wool and neither will my kids.

I use our MX5 with my daughter (7 months old) and she likes it. But I do restrict my journeys to local runs, no motorways, however irrational. I use the barge for long journeys.

I guess I would go down to as small as a Caterham, but I think I'd want something factory built or at least a good Indy checking over the passenger gubbins first.

Sensible advice IMO. There is a tendency amongst some parents to insist that whatever they want to do with their child is entirely acceptable because it is their child. No other considerations can be relevant. I do not agree with that premise. One suggestion on here has been to run a car without a floor in place with the child in the car. I strongly disagree with that suggestion. That IMO would be seriously foolhardy and almost certainly unlawful. Very small children require reasonable protection. I do not consider a kit car suitable transport for a very small child particularly in heavy weather without sidescreens and a windscreen.. This is of course just my opinion.
