Hi. I have just changed the spring in my fox 40's from blue to purple to get the sag right to better suit my weight. The spring came with the heat wrap already on it to stop it banging. I bought it from mojo so it should be the right spring. I dropped the spring in and it now clonks under travel even when stationery. I have tried it with both 3 and 4 spacers and I have tried the spring both ways up. Any ideas as to the cause and cure?

This might help: http://ride.io/forum/index.php?topic=243316.0

More wrap (in centre) or a bit of grease.

marcus - thanks - i have oredred more heat wrap and will shove that one - hopefully it will do the trick. its been a long time. I'm still sprinting but now in a griff.

We do a lads trip to morzine for 6 years now in the summer and have even done the Mega Avalache in Alpe Duez which was great but pretty scary! Where do you go down hilling? a group of us are going to bike park wales on 2 Jan and we have booked the uplift to save our old legs form too much exertion. cheers Jes

I don't do loads - a bit locally at Stile Cop (Cannock Chase) and I've done uplifts at Bringewood and Antur Stiniog (both excellent).

There's also a group I ride with based in Manchester and we do Alpine/Pyrenes uplift trips, but that's more what I;d call 'All Mountain' stuff. I had a big smash in 2011, so I do try to be sensible nowadays. biggrin

Sprinting going well?

sprintings great. i won the championship in 08 and 09 in the cerb then sold it and had a couple of years off. returned in 12 and won it in the griff 500 and then came second and won class B this year in it so all good fun. You would recognise a few of the old faces but there are lots of new people now. Its really competitive now 50 odd entries and some events now have 30 TVR's entered. I am having 2014 off to pay for kids at uni though )-: so I thought i would do something cheaper and play with my mountain and road bikes. cheers Jes

Glad to hear sprinting's good. Please pass my regards onto the old guard when you see them.

Sorry to hear you (misguidedly) think mtb is in anyway cheaper than sprinting. But enjoy it anyway. hehe

Nice rigs those Demo 8s. Love the hoops on it.

This is mine (Intense 951) doing some crash test dummy work on a newly built drop at Stile Cop:

nice rig - the 951 got really good reviews. you do bigger drop offs than me. My right knee is knackered so it can't take a sudden load without collapsing which isn't great so i am a bit restricted on the size of drop off. The tribulations of approaching 50!

I hear you! I'm very much in self-preservation/fun mode these days.

Actually, that drop was not too bad, the landing was on a nice transition (out of shot), which was a happy coincidence, because none of us knew that until I'd ridden it.

Good there are some downhiller here :-)

I've uplift booked there on 19th Jan, off to Tidworth free ride on Saturday morning, usually ride Aston Hill as live in Oxfordhire now and went to Cwmcarn the week before last.

I am just returning to the fold after a 12 year break, my old downhill bike (Kona Stab with BETD plates)last got used at a Dragon Downhill race back in the day as it had to be sold to fund a car.

Bought a Commencal Supreme FR about a month ago and dived right back in :-) its like riding a bike .. :-)

You must be made of money, buying new bikes wink still see plenty of Stabs and Stinkys going well on the hill!

Can recommend you both to Antur Stiniog but beware, it can and (sadly, seemingly regularly) does bite. The blue is lovely, but is fast and lures you in - Mrs Digga and I helped a rider off there in July with a badly broken forearm - the reds rockier, the black is nice (that and the blue are my faves) but with some jumps that need a bit of care (especially if the wind's funnelling up the hill) and the double-black is nails, as in rocky, jeffing steep and techy.

The uplift service and facilities there are brilliant though, and the trails offer plenty of challenges, but are, with the exception IMHO of the double black, all very 'rideable'.

I was chatting to some guys at Cwncarn and they said AS was good but they did make comment that the black had a section where you go down a steep section and can see where it should end and see where you enter but it just doesn't look like there is a track in-between just sort of cliff & rocks, sounds interesting smile

edit - Is the below vid representative of the double black and AN? it doesn't look at all difficult from the video and not like the guys at Cwmcarn described?

Not one single video of AS does it justice. It is very tough.

The double black has bits (the two sections after the 'fences') that I and a few other riders just walked down, having all stopped to scope them. IMHO I could try to ride it, but even if I did, the risk to the bike (rear mech etc.) was huge and not worth it.

This guy (no idea who he is) is having a bit of a faff on the black, but you can see and hear the wind gusts I was on about, especially if you follow from 2min50 and then listen to the gust at about 3min10: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4oYsqpaipU
Needs to be considered - the wind crosses you up and a mate who went, landed off trail in the rocks at this point and trashed the peak on his helmet.

It must be late in the day, because at the end of this, you can see me struggling to lift my bike onto the uplift trailer. hehe
