Gents,

Some advice needed please.
I was cleaning my car on Saturday (karscher pressure washer just to get some bird dirt off) and when I inspected afterwards it looks like a chunk of clear coat (roughly 3 inches by one inch) has been lifted from the bonnet.

Is there any way of rectifying this or is the only viable option a respray?

I'm not massively fussed about how it looks, but I'll be looking to change the car within the next few months and I know it will make it a harder sell cause it looks bad when paint isn't right - especially on the bonnet....

Any advice welcome!

It'll need respraying.

Balls.

I had hoped there might be a way to just re-lacquer that spot as the paint beneath is fine.

I think I expected it would need a respray though.

Thanks for the post.

As a quick/cheap "bodge" - clear vinyl over the top - like ventureshield (not cheap!) would disguise the damage quite well as long as there are no white edges around the lifted lacquer. Make it look like the front of the bonnet has been done to protect it- not cover it up!

Unfortunately its not, although it may look intact, its lost its adhesion properties, hence the clear has lifted.

Other than a respray, perhaps a nice big sticker.... or not smokin

Pressure washers are wonderful. Providing you keep the tip of the lance at least a metre from the paintwork. Used at close quarters - -esp if there is a stone chip - they can remove lacquer with ease. Been there, done that & like you it was the bonnet. Complete panel respray.

Yeah I remember thinking that I should be careful... Then proceeded to ignore my own advice..

Lesson learned.
