fast & safe driving advice

Can anyone point me at some documentation about how to drive fast and safe. Looking for explanations on how to enter and exit a corner, racing line, apex, understeer, oversteer, where the weight moves, etc.

Want to get the most from my car. Am working up to doing a track day and want to do some homework.

Don't be tempted to use your track knowledge on the road. It is different! Some of the principles are appropriate for road but you need someone to explain them or show you whilst on the road or you will not last very long at all, especially in a TVR!

I agree. They are brilliant. Great fun and give loads of confidence BUT track techniques are likley to get you into trouble on public roads as there is a different technique for driving safely on roads at speed. As that is where most people do their driving, track experience is not hugely helpful!

There's quite a bit in the bible explaining heel and toe and so on, understeer and oversteer and how to get round it. Best advice is to take it easy and pick up one think at a time. Learning to drive well takes time.
Car control is more important than racing lines initially as these are all about putting the car where you want it and working out the best place to put it. If the car is not under control, doesn't matter how well you know the racing lines, the car won't be there.

Oh. And subscribe to "Circuit Driver" as well. Mark Hales' article on Heel and Toe gave the best ever explanation of both the technique, the reasons for it, and how to do it as a practical matter I've ever read.
