Gents

Opportunity may arise for me to take the lease on a good size, secure clean dry workshop. No pits but a car tilter and good range of tools available.

Problem is, I can't afford it by myself, so I was wondering what the demand might be like for like minded individuals who needed some space for say 6 months to renovate / store their cars safely and securely.

Probably get 5 - 6 cars in storage, or 4 that can be comfortably worked on.

Storage could include weekly tyre / battery / turnover checks so that if required the car could be taken out with minimal notice on that sunny Saturday afternoon.

Just out of interest what would you guys be willing to pay per month for such a facility?

I have used professional car storage. They usually work out at:

Bronze - 100pcm - safe storage, car on battery conditioner

Silver - 125pcm - as above + monthly start up, fluids checked, tyres checked.

Gold - 150pcm - as silver + car stored in Carcoon/Airchamber

Where roughly is your spot? Its all about location and access for me.

Hi Ben, midway between York and Leeds, access during the working week could be instant, out of hours I live next door! ( but probably spend more time in the unit!!)

That solves a big problem, a lot of the pro storage places can only be accessed Mon-Fri 9-5 which is a pain in the arse.

I reckon people would pay 50-70pcm for storage like that plus a place to tinker. I pay 40pcm for a space in a secure gated underground carpark in Skipton, access 24/7.

If there was the option for paying for a week for storage/tinkering and access to a plug socket then I would probably be interested. It would allow me to tinker/service my car without freezing my nads off on my driveway.

Hi Matt hows it going? Green one still working, and the Porsche!? Had any more fixer uppers in?

Is this the unit I have seen?

Long term storage is not really something I need (or can afford) - but I ca nsee how it would be very useful for some folk.

However I really could do with somewhere to finish painting this red one! Its 90% done, just the rest of the painting remaining till I can finish off, get it tested etc.

I lost the space I was using to do the painting, the shell is all done, I just need to do the bumpers, wings, spoilers etc. I have all the kit, a compressor etc, I just need somewhere clean-ish and dry-ish to do it! Will only take a day or two max, can throw the bits in the van, quick wipe down then paint, then just need to sit and harden.

I can pay for the space, power etc, if you reckon you can help?

Simon.

I got a quote for storage yesterday, a classic car place that does restoration and storage somewhere near york.

They wanted £70/month or £80 on a battery optimiser.

I need to move into a new place before Christmas, and if I can't find somewhere with a garage I need to put my Westy in storage... I would need at least 6 months, to a year until I buy my own place with suitable facilities.

I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Gents,

thanks for your input on this matter. Very helpful, not sure whether I can justify taking on the unit & just waiting to find out whether the unit will become available or not.
