Baked Bean revelation...

Where baked beans are concerned I'm a traditionalist. Branstons varieties hold no sway with me. BBQ?, no thanks.

However today I have made a discovery.

The overpriced posh breakfast place around the corner from our offices delivered breakfast with beans of different breed. They are your humble Heinz tinned genus but with a twist that was initially hard to identify but was in fact cinnamon(!).

Sounds weird but do try this out. A very light sprinke of cinnamon mixed in may be old news to some but this was a new experience to me and one I shall tip a hat to. Delightful.

After living off Heinz my whole life, I'm now a Branston convert. I now find Heinz beans far too sweet.

I always add a teaspoon of paprika. Makes all the difference.

I have been known (geddit?!) to spice up my beans with the odd touch of spice, cinnamon included.
Usually in the mix with paprika, onion salt, garlic powder and black pepper.

Tesco standard range beans here.

What's your "sauce" on this? I only ask as purchased some Tesco own brand the other day. Due to Heinz being bland and they didn't have branston. The own brand blue tin were alarmingly similar in taste, I wondered if Tesco were hoping people would switch from Branston to own brand.

Hmmm my Tesco manager bloke told me Branston were repackaging, even I know it doesn't take this long to repackage....lying little turd.

Cinnamon appears to be the new black - I ordered a mojito in a London hotel last week and it quite distinctly had cinnamon in it. Wasn't unpleasant, mind.

Heinz beans are nowhere near as good as Branstons but a deal has been agreed with heinz across all there products.

Cinnamon is interesting in savoury applications. My mum always put it in shepherds pie, and I do to this day, really adds another dimension to it.

Will try it in beans.

Btw, if you want surprisingly tasty beans, try morrisons basic brand, sort of green and white tin iirc. Really nice sauce, reminded me of the old cross and Blackwell ones from the 70s and 80s.
