on my website again.
I am putting together a build diary and have taken the free 50MB from my ISP. As its a build site I have uploaded (FrontPage) text and pictures, I'm about a third of the way through my build and I'm already up to 48MB! I have resized my pictures and they are between 80 and 160KB These are hyperlinked to the images file to open up larger. Is there something else I can do to reduce the size as I'm guessing that its not the text thats doing it?

Any help would be appreciated (as usual)

Graham

I'd ditch the big versions if at all possible.

You must have hundreds of photos.

Remember, too much content is as bad as too little...

You can either reduce :-

the quantity
the quality
the size

or upgrade to a better hosting account.

Whats taking up the most space?

I guess that I could take out some of the pictures, but there will be more!
I've only just mastered (if you call it that)the stage where I'm at now, to upgrade would I have to get another domain name and transfer all my 'stuff' over Do you get more than 50MB ?
And I thought that build a car was challenging?

Depends, you could just transfer the current domain name to someone else, and simply reupload the content to the new place.

If you click the banner in the top right you will see my company, used by all and sundry on PH.

1000mb of space and more toys than a moon rocket, AND a free domain (or an extra 1 year extension on your transfer) for under a Ton. (or the cheaper package for £50)

If you want cheaper still, there are many budget hosts out there offering 50-100mb packages for the price of a good lapdance.

Feel free to mail me via my profile if you want to chat.

reducing the max picture size down to 800 by 600 will help ,also use some jpeg compression software on the images to further reduce them ,

also looking at the website are you using thumbnails for the smaller pictures if not create thumbnails for the images and link to larger pictures ,i have over a 1000 images on my website consisting of large pictures and thumbnails and this comes in at under 50mb

Or you could upload all pictures to a free photo site like photobucket or similiar and "hot link" the pictures into your site.
