Error 417 expectation error.

Everytime I try and post on my phone I get this error. I've managed to post for the past 2 days after getting this error for the past 2 months but yet again it's doing it again tonight.

Anyone got any ideas?

Are you using mobile.pistonheads.com?

If so, I'm afraid it's unlikely that the issue is going to be resolved.
Your best route is to change your "skin" to Mobile(beta) via this link -> http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/prefs.asp then use the full site on your mobile.

I still can't post on the full site on my phone, it just says "oops, something's not quite right. The technical team have been notified."

As a workaround for the issue, you can reply on the mobile site, then just edit the URL and change "mobile.pistonheads.com" to "www.pistonheads.com", make your post then hit back, back, and refresh.

Right I give up, the forum is unusable. It's a shame that an issue reported by multiple people is being given no attention.

I've tried working around the issue, using the beta site etc but the redirect to the mobile site keeps breaking the site in one way or another.

I didn't realise this was such a big problem, surley it's in their best interest to fix it? I don't visit the site no where near as often as I used to because of this, so that must be affecting page hits and thus advertisement revenues?

Nah, they are able to get the intrusive adverts working in between posts.

If you're using the mobile site then that's why the 417 error is occurring. Use Slinky's link above to use the Mobile Beta skin.

Frustrates me too.
All you can do when posting from a mobile is try and keep your posts pretty short and as has already been said, avoid quoting where possible, particularly if the post you want to quote is lengthy. I'm really surprised this issue can't be sorted.

Thanks for trying to help. I've done that, and that brings with it a whole load of other problems as is to be expected from a beta site. The most annoying problem is having to manually edit urls to remove mobile in order to navigate around when the links don't work.

I could probably change the browser agent on my phone to fix it but then that would break other sites.

Would be much easier if they just reverted whatever change broke it in the first place.

You mention reverting to whatever they had before, but I've always had this issue on the mobile. It's doesn't seem new - if anything things are a little better now.

I can't remeber it being a problem a few years ago, but perhaps I didn't have a smart phone back then and my posts were purely from a PC. I can't really remember!

Try starting a thread, doesn't seem possible from a mobile device.

I've tried the beta skin, hasn't worked, and the mobile site proper has been buggered for ages.

Can't even load the forum from the homepage link to begin with. I need to have a shortcut to the full forum URL.
