clearance measurement
Discussion
i need a measurement please.
planning on fitting a cda can as an air filter, but need to know how low the front of the bonnet drops when opening the bonnet to the std position. (if it does drop at all) the can will sit pretty much above the side chassis rail, (maybe in an inch or two) so i need a measurement from the edge of the bonnet opening at that point to the lowest part of the front lip of the bonnet, when the bonnet is open and if it is lower than that whilst being opened.
if it doesnt drop, no worries, but i cant tell as I but dont have my hinges at the moment, so cant really check.
i could be mithering about nothing, but worth asking before i go any further with my plans....
thanks!!

Steve,
I checked this when I came up with the twin CDA idea, it does drop a little but I can still get the 150mm DIA of the filters OD in there. You might want to check though as the Tam bonnet may be slightly different to the T350?
The drop from the bonnet is what stopped me taking a straight feed from the throttle body to the top of the radiator as per the Corvette and VXR type installations (also the way Craig has his on the RX7).
That compound angle of the alloy 90 bends is going to be tricky to get right.
Looks like you're overtaking me, frustrating for me sitting in an office thousands of miles away not being able to crack on.

sam....maybe i will just sort out all the niggles so that your return and install is easier..... have found that getting the supplied ali flex tubing round the rad and rad inlet tube is vv tight, but much easier if you use a more flexible silicone hose (which also expands back to diameter when it can..... other side is way easier as no pipe to deal with, but your install will be easier as the header tank on mine dictated where the bends go, and you wont have that,. also found that using a silicone bend to turn the inlet down helps a lot as it tucks under the header a little
re the ali bend, thinking some laser lines (ive got a laser level thingy that does lines as well as points if i can find the reflector thing off the front) projected off a fixed point in the garage to reference points on the engine to mark up each half of the bend installed separately
looks a very easy way to mess up £30 worth of bends.......

Hi Steve
Hope these are ok apols for lateness in replying but I have been saving the world again this weekend!
Anyway as follows:
6" from bottom of bonnet to chassis cross member

7" from higest part of bonnet to the glass fibre innner wing sitting on top of the main chassis rail

finally from glassfibre inner wing to oil ctach tank 7"

If this is not clear enough Steve then drop me dimensions of the filter can and i'll mock up a cardboard rep and show it in situ. if that helps.
