Best modern classic for £12kish
Discussion
Having just bought a house (with a nice big double garage), this is probably a good 12 months off yet.
However depending how things go with work, i could be in a position to buy a cool car. £12k is the max budget, but would be happy to spend a lot less
Cars which instantly come to mind include:
mazda rx7
Nissan r32 GTR (not a massive fan of 4wd though)
Z3m coupe
Tvr tuscan
Toyota supra - i would love a 1jz/2jz engine, but not a fan of the supras lairy image
which of the above do you think would appreciate the most over time? Another thing i i pretty my cars to look standard, sadly most older jap stuff is covered in fibre glass.
Or i could do something a bit crazy, buy a cheap daily, and do a 1jz conversion on the my current e36 328.
any ideas?

You won't get a Tuscan at that price but you'll get a mint Chimaera 450. Not sure if its going to appreciate though.
Of that list the M Coupe would be my choice but that'll take quite some time to go up in value and will probably be double the running costs of a good Chimaera. As someone else hinted at a Clio V6 is a banker for going up in value in the future.

If I had a somewhere to put it I'd buy one of the many early silver Boxsters with ambers about for less than 5k' - something like this.... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...
Honestly think they'll end up as a bit of a classic but even if they don't I doubt I'd lose anything at that money.

I don't think you've understood the car business.Even cars which appear to "hold their value" are almost certainly depreciating once you adjust for inflation. Equally, any car which "holds its value" is likely to present substantial running costs to offset the apparent lack of depreciation.
