Different versions of CVs

A friend of mine has a marketing background and has covered a wide range of areas. Would you advocate making up different CVs, e.g. one focusing on online marketing, one focusing on general marketing, one focusing on industries she has been in etc? It seems to make sense to me and it means she can apply for relevant jobs more quickly, rather than rewriting her C.V. each time. However, on job sites (I think) you can only put one C.V. on there?

Yes, can't hurt but remember that it is often required to flex these to further job to job highlight skills.

When I was last looking I had one main CV for job sites, a gerneral one if you will. However when ever I applied directly for jobs I tailored it to suit the job more.

This. A well written generic CV will be able to include her entire skillset without detriment to the overall message being portrayed.

It's always better to tailor a cv to a particular application but this shouldn't mean an extensive rewrite every time, more like a quick 10 min scan through and tweak here or there.

A well crafted outcomes based CV should be able to attract general interest. When applying for a specific role however, there will inevitably be an opportunity (I would say it is essential) to hone it further to give it some specificity for the role in question in order to improve its chance of being sifted in. I used to keep a few different CVs tailored to different markets, but found that as I had to tweak them anyway it was quicker to keep a super CV, which covered 4 pages of A4 and then just trim away all the fat out of the areas that wasn't specific to the role I was going for.
