Where to buy a Cayman S for about £20k?

Morning Folks,

It has been a number of years since I owned a Porsche, but I have previously owned a boxster a 996 and a 997.

Can anyone recommend any good garages to pick up a Cayman S for around £20K for the Missus for her Birthday?

Obviously for this budget a main dealer is not really an option.

I remember there were a number of good independents but I have been out the loop for a few years having had owned other marques so I thought I would ask to try and get some up to date info.

I am in Edinburgh but am happy to travel for a good car.

Bowker Ribble Valley are worth a look. They are between Preston and Blackburn and part of Bowker BMW, Bowker Mini and Preston Harley Davidson group. Some nice looking cars in stock. Happy to have apoke around a specific car if you want - they are just down the road from me.

As you will be getting a Gen I car for your budget I would suggest getting an extended warranty. These would be transferrable if you buy privatley or a dealer is doing SOR for an individual. However, OPC Wilmslow have a silver car - £19k, 2007, 50k miles and reasonable spec. Could be worth a look for peace of mind.

The Wilmslow car is equivalent to a £17k car plus 2 year warranty then.

Back from the Holidays and I am still looking for a car here?

Does anyone else have any ideas of a good place to look? I have ruled out the bowker cars and the RPM one if gone.... the OPC's are pretty bare as well. I think I might have to bump it up 25k at this rate....

Friend of mine has just set up a small Porsche specialist near heathrow. He has a 40k mile atlas grey cayman s for £16.5k.

Upping your budget to £25k brings the Gen II Cayman 2.9 into play. This is where my money would be going, it's a new car with an engine with no reported issues unlike the Gen I 3.4 unit. You might also get the later PCM3 sat nav etc which is much better than the older PCM2 unit.

That is an interesting point. How does the performance compare between the 3.4 gen 1 and the 2.9 gen 2? anyone have some useful input?

When a good friend of mine had his Gen 2 2.9, we had a couple of spirited drives together and I found that my Gen 1 had a fair bit in reserve when I was following him, and I know for a fact he wasn't holding back.

Was the 3.4 a Gen I or the much faster Gen II?
