I just posted this on GG forum:- www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=135696&f=23&h=0
But I always value the advice of all my friends in here.

Hi Kevin,
I scanned the thread on GG and agree with some of the points. I replied here 'cos this thread was looking lonely.
AFAIK, it is unlikely that the golf club will accept any liability. They will probably have disclaimer notices on the premises regarding 'No responsibility to owners cars..blah, blah, blah'. It seems very unlikely that they will offer to cover your car which was damaged outside of the course and its car parks.
Increasingly in this litigious society, it is becoming the responsibility of the golfers themselves to ensure they have adequate third party liability insurance. This would cover you in the event of, say, getting a hole in one and having to dosh out £100 on drinks or damage to cars on and off the premises or hitting and injuring a member of the public / another player (or their wheels !).
I'm guessing you will need to find the name and address of the errant golfer and try and appeal to his / her better side. Failing that, a visit to the small claims court would be on the cards.
If you hit a wall on this one, drop me a mail and I can have a word with a friend of mine who is a golf club secretary. I'm sure he will have experience of similar matters and would be in a position to advise a plan for resolution.
Let us know how you get on.
Neil

Really sorry to hear it mate
Can fiberglass be panelbeaten? I didnt know it could be dented...? I thought things bounced off our cars, unless the force was great enough to penetrate or cause splintering and breakage
Again, really sorry to hear it. I agree with the control the conversation, dont discuss liability (leave that to the insurers) and be calm.

Thanks Neil, that's kind of you, I'll see what they say on Thursday.
I have had other comments from others about the "we don't accept responsibility for peoples cars etc" but I wasn't in their car park and I wasn't within their grounds, I was innocently passing on a public road where there is a 60mph speed limit, thankfully I was only driving at 35-40. They must have a responsibility to ensure that they have taken adequate steps to avoid golf balls hitting passing cars but there is nothing at all no nettign as one would expect and they should have insurance for situations where a ball strays and causes damage to peoples property.
I won't accept from them that they won't have anything to do with it. If they play that game I will make sure I borrow my mates clubs and I'm shite at golf and will most certainly hit all the cars in their car park

Hi Rob,
No mate
I was in the VW ....the once dent free VW now with bloody great golf ball sized dent in the bonnet
It's really annoying as it didn't have so much as a parking dent prior to this and I'm just considering p/xing for a new(er) car.
KentishS2 said:Easy tiger. It sounds like they really didnt cooperate, left you pretty miffed. Take 10 steps back, and make a passive plan of action. Do not discuss liability. Get their insurance details. Then advice on processing a claim, and get it resolved without debating the ins and outs with them. Was speaking to a client of mine yesterday who was/is the only man in britain to have ever got a bank to reopen its doors after closing down. Took him 5 years, but the point is anything can be achieved with persistance if handled the right way. Having said that, if you have a club for each of us...

Oh I'm OK thanks, just a bit cross at the t0sser hitting the ball and I'll be pursuing the club if they are not adequately insured.
I also have 5000 colleagues where I work many of which play there as it's just 5 mins up the road and I'll not hesitate posting a message on our bulletin board about the golf club. Nothing libellous of course just the facts but since many of them here drive cars like SLK's, TT's, Lotus (Loti), M3's and M5's and the odd Tiv (seen a couple of Rolls and a Ferrari on site too) I'm sure they'd be a bit put off by the thought that the club wouldn't repair their vehicle should it get damaged in their club!
I'm not angry, I'm as cool as a cucumber but not as green

The ratio of beer to the number of frustrating situations in life within which we find ourselves just isn't right. How much do you think it will set you back to have it fixed?
I kinda got the feeling that KS2 was expecting someone other than himself to be footing the repair bill
As for the beer ratio, I'm doing my best to even the score on that front

Hi Rob,
I'm hoping that I will persuade the club to cough up, it isn't as though I could avoid it in any way and they should have adequate insurance cover for this kind of thing.
My excess is £250 and I'd guess to repair and respray the bonnet will be around £200/250 so not worth me claiming and I wouldn't anyway as I'm not responsible.
Only a few months back I was driving (slowly) along a narrow lane in the VW and through some water that I was unable to avoid because it was so big and the car went down an enormous hole and bent both wheels and knackered the tyres. Just a few moments before me a lady had done exactly the same thing and over a period of 3 weeks before that I discovered that 4 other people had done exactly the same thing (and that's justh the ones I'm aware of). I didn't get recovered home until 4am the following day and had to go straight out to work (using the S) without having slept that night. The local council refused to accept a claim of course.
Lets's just imagine that I'm in a car park and my door is caught by the wind and hits the car next to me and the owner is sitting inside, could I say "no sorry mate we're on private property and in addition it was the wind not me and therefore you can't have my insurance details", he'd go mad and rightly so!
You're right about the balance of lifes irritations etc. It's been one thing after another, I'm still fixing the house up where the previous owners stole the fixtures and fittings before fecking off to Texas, it'll cost us nearly £9k to put everything right by the time we finish (hence no S budget now).

Jeez mate. Sounds like you've had a raw deal or two! Its worst when there is nothing you can do about your problems. I dont mind having to engage
mode on occasion (tactfully of couse) but being served up a stale mate situation is frustrating! How did you find out about the other people who drove through the pothole?

Ahh well, the nice man from the AA had just attended the last lady who did the same thing just a few minutes before me said I could sit in his van whilst it was raining and although he wasn't allowed to give me her details they were still on his display whilst he looked the other way
I gave her a call the next morning and she said her boyfriend had done the same thing in the same place and so had her neighbour and her neighbour mentioned that he knew of somebody else who had done the same thing a few days before.
