Hey guys,

Looking for opinion’s on what car to get with around £12-15,000 budget. The car is gonna used daily for a 40 mile round commute, would like something fairly new (4 years or newer), lowish mileage and pretty quick with not bad economy.

I was originally wanting a cayman s gen 2 but these are out my budget so have been looking at a megane rs250 but not sure about french cars and the interior doesn’t look great. Theres the golf gti too but think that would be a bit boring for me. I was looking at some german diesels like the merc c350, audi a5 (3.0 tdi) and bmw 335i/d. But again i dunno if these would be a bit boring.

Any suggestions or has anyone had experience with any of these for daily use?

Sorry didn't say, but i don't have specifics for running costs but by the examples i gave is what im looking at. Mid 20s - 30 mpg is acceptable and not looking at evos etc which are pretty rubbish fuel wise.

I've just picked up a TT Tdi towards the top end of that budget. Lowish miles, fairly new and reasonable mix of performance -v- mpg. Returns circa 50mpg and the midrange is reasonable enough not to embarrass itself. It's no sports car, certainly. But it's not a bad place to spend long journeys, although steer clear of the S-line suspension for comfort. Decent hatch boot, small rear seats and 2 comfortable and decent leg room seats up front. Added bonus of quattro when the weather starts to turn.

I'm in a similar situation OP... 40 miles a day commute, I have a budget of around £15k and at the moment I can't look beyond a BMW 330i/d Coupe. Not hard to find a nice M Sport with leather, updated Nav/I drive, cruise, and under 60k mileage for the cheaper BMW warranty. Even the 330i should be able to return low to mid 30's. Might be closer to 5 year old though at 15k, not sure how much this matters?
