Yep - Kevin Carter's picture. I believe he committed suicide soon after winning the Pulitzer Prize, although I don't know if the Prize was for that particular photo?

Carter did win the Pulitzer Prize for that picture, he took his life shortly after winning.

He was demonised for not helping the girl rather than taking the picture, although he did apparently carry her to the Red Cross zone before running to make his helicopter out, if I remember correctly. Although, the debate still stands in the shape of whether he ought to have taken the picture first or if that were a step too many. The awareness that brought for the famine in the Sudan is immeasurable though, but I don't want to start treading on utilitarianism so I'll leave this brief aside there.

ETA another powerful image is the little girls after Hiroshima. They are naked so I won't post it. It's haunting.

No whoosh parrot needed - it is an extremely powerful image.

The everyone except three people image is also a pcture of earth - the caption that often accompanies it goes along the lines of "bar three people every single person who has ever lived or died is in this photo"

I'm paraphrasing but the origional is again pretty powerful.

No it's not. EVERY person that ever lived are in that photo. No human has ever been as far out as Voyager.

I think we're getting our wires crossed.

The pale blue dot image is the one made famous by Carl Sagan and it's awesome, I love it and I show it to all my classes.

My comment of "all humans bar three" is the one of Earth from the Moon which refers to the three chaps on the mission behind the camera. There's another version somewhere with everyone in it bar the chap behind the camera.

Not really the camera that makes it powerful. More the concept of how amazingly insignificant the earth is.
