I know this is a bit of a stab in the dark but I've had this rattle from the left side of the dash for a few months, I've had the top off a few times and secured everything which wasn't fixed down (most of it) but still got the rattle.

Anything you can think of I've missed, maybe below the actual dash rather than under the top?

Do you have the usual mass of relays on top of the battery box. There's also a fair amount of wiring behind the "glove box" panel.

Stab in the dark as you say!

Make sure it's not the back edge of your bonnet hitting the mesh panel that the wiper spindles come through. It was on mine a strip of rubber channel glued on the edge of the bonnet fixed it.

I have had this on both the drivers side and passenger.

Rattles I have fixed:

Under the dash:
1. stick everything down with new velcro.
2. get some cable clips and stop the heating control wires from rattling around - this is common, on the LHS

By the battery:
1. Any number of wires/fuses/relays. Take your pick but essentially, taping them all together will determine if its these

Under the bonnet:
1. Rubber on mesh, as above
2. Where my throttle cable crossed over the bonnet release cable (I think - not with car right now), these were tapping agaisnt each other. Again, a cable clip or something to limit the movement.

Just beware - the little rattles often come from places you might not imagine, and the sound proofing from the engine bay to the cabin is bugger all. High pitched sounds carry well and you may find your rattle is actually not inside the car at all.

Good luck

Rich

Place an old cushion behind the seat so it can't be seen - & push both seat reach all the way back while sitting in seat - should cure - can still operate seat lever too & handy cushion for those summer days/night naps

immobiliser is usually loose under the main dash (take out the "glove box" and reach to the right) it may be that?

My little rattle under dash turned out to be a pipe tapping a chassis rail just above the bell housing. I spent hours removing the top of the dash and more hours securing and cable tying all for nothing

Another cause of rattle is the bonnet pin that latches into the bonnet latch. This pin should have a plastic sleeve on it but the sleeve often fractures and falls off leaving a loosely fitting pin to rattle in the latch.
