Part of our enthusiasm for Wedges leads to spending a lot of money on them as well as those who have the ability to spend time and effort.

How about some pictures of these with an indication of where money was spent:

My curates egg for starters, that just recently is undergoing a complete engine rebuild:

I'm in the process of tarting mine up, I wonder when I'll reach the point that I've spent more on it than I'll ever get back. As far as the grin factor goes I'm getting my money's worth surprisingly quickly.

I wouldn't dare put pics of my shed up; not for nothing did it win Best Rat in Show at BBWF a few years back biggrin... including purchase price I must be up around £9500 since 2000, but I defy anyone to see where the money's gone.
I did once work out that the two previous owners had spent more than £21000 on it - and it cost £23000 new.

Yeah...I know that feeling! My project has gone to show how much can be spent especially when I started with a great running car to restore! I've added up the parts bill so far ( fingers crossed just the exhaust tomorrow before I move onto paint etc...!) but in the last 5 months I've spent £4600 and of course no labour (apart from chassis labour of course)

Ps-your car looks fantastic Henry!

Well over the 10 years I have had mine I reckon ive spent under 3 grand as my biggest bill to date was £600 and after that its been no more than a couple of hundred quid. Well I say that but I havent added up the wad of invoices I have cos I dont want to cry.

Over the years I must have spent over £50,000 on my three wedges.

On petrol, tyres, petrol, spares, petrol....

Kind of puts it in perspective.

I won't admit to how much I've spent on mine in the last 17 years but it's a lot more than I paid for the car. If you looked at the interior, with the exception of the seat and harnesses and roll cage, you'd be hard-pressed to realise that I have spent anything at all frown However, the images do show some of where the money has gone eg. tuscan race wheels, bonnet mods (needed for engine mods); John Eales 4.8 (which, if you include all the labour, new anciliaries and other things done at the same time came to not far off the cost of the car!).
Then, of course, you can't see the uprated brakes (not first set either); suspension; exhaust........ list goes on.

Adam - perhaps you and I should have bought a nice house together....it might have been cheaper for both of us!

Just spent 55 quid on a set of bushes but it is the first Mot in my ownership. First mot on the stag was £1500 and that was the same age at the time. 1990 wedge or 1973 stag? Just wanted to get back to the v8 covertable and will never look back? Looking forward to showing it of again soon!

Cars of any type are a massive expense - the question is, once you've totted it all up , would you have rather spent the money on something else ? If the answer Is no then it's money well spent. biggrin

The way I see it is, if you divide the total expenditure by the miles travelled, could you have got public transport any cheaper? I have yet to find the answer is yes, once you've owned a car more than a couple of years.
For the purposes of calculation, you are allowed to deduct the price you sold (or could sell) the car for wink

E.g. in my case, purchase price was £6250, maintenance expenditure so far about £3500, plus 12 years' insurance at say £120 a year = £1440, plus 25000-ish miles at 18mpg and an average of say £1.20 a litre = £7575 on fuel = £18765.
Less its resale - let's be generous and call it £2765 - equals £16000 or 64p a mile. Can you go a mile on a bus for 64p? You certainly couldn't in a taxi.

Well somebody said to me once when it comes to spending money its either "Heels or Wheels"..Im just glad i choose the "Wheels"..If it was "Heels" then theres a chance i would be heart broken..Out on me backside with no car..Home or a pot to pi55 in..I may be a lonely ole bugger but I'm happy..Happiness does have a price….If you have both and you are happy then even better...smile
