I'm kind of getting bored with Rioja, I am a fiend for a mojito but when it comes to spirits and mixers I tend to be a whiskey and coke bloke.

However I've been getting into JD & Ginger and sailor Jerry's & coke recently and have become open to any other suggestions maybe something a bit different?

Not very different to what you have had but it was new for me. Mate was shown this by Diageo at a corporate do in Cork this year. Jameson in a tall glass with plenty of ice, squash quarter lime into the glass and throw the rind in too. Add ginger ale to finish.
Seriously refreshing with the ginger ale flavour totally altered by the lime juice.
Great alternative to G&T.

On a similar note to a whiskey sour, how about a mint julep?

Mount Gay rum with tonic, Angostura bitters and fresh lime. White rum can work but not as nice. Never use that Capt. Morgan muck, just a nice dark rum.

House gin and a bitter lemon - AKA a "soapy" goes down very well indeed.

2 shots of espresso, 3 shots of vodka, 3 shots of Kahlua, 2 shots of white creme de cacao (or Baileys). Shake over ice and strain and 2 espresso martini's are complete.

The San Pellegrino sodas are my favorite mixers by far.

I think most of the UK supermarkets now stock them? The grapefruit one with tequila or vodka is fantastic.

As other people have said, a squeeze of lime and a dash of bitters make even the most boring mixer (e.g. Sprite) taste interesting.
