I have a quick HDMI CEC question - should a Philips Easylink equipped soundbar work with a Panasonic Vieira TV (Vieira link) for using the tv remote to change volume levels?

My other options are non-HDMI CEC soundbars and velcroing their remotes to the Sky remote hehe

Sadly I believe that unless you have Panasonic HDMI cables the Viera Link wont work, even with decent cables. A decent soundbar however should have a general remote link allowing certain functions to be operated via a smartphone or a Panasonic / Sky / whatever remote.

It's the first time I've heard that you need a particular brand of HDMI cable to work as I understood that HDMI cables are wired to a standard. Granted there are older cables that aren't up to passing 1080p (I have an old 12 metre cable that is like that) but in terms of the wiring they ought to all be the same.

Whether the OP's combination works is another matter altogether though.

As long as your HDMI is a relatively new one, it should work with any tv / source combo.

My LG TV remote controls the PS3 perfectly via CEC.
