Screen washer wiper switch
Discussion
Before I set too crow-barring the wood off the dash the screen wash has died, which follows single speed wipers for a couple of weeks
Haven't multimeterred the switch but shorting out the socket gets things working so guess its the switch.
Anyway, can anyone tell me what is the origin of this and has anyone a spare they fancy selling?

The switch is rivetted together but it is possible to drill out, strip and sort the internals then use screws to reassemble...
Thst sounds fun....Loads of springs etc?
Pulled an MG Midget gearbox apart once after it stuck in first but lost the Jesus spring.
The one that flies out across the garage and into the collection of debris in the corner. Jesus where did that go...
Plot thickens
Not sure if it's the switch or the feed to it
All seems intermittent
just as you think you know what the problem is it all works, then it doesn't
Currently got single speed and washers
When connecting a definite live feed to the brown-green terminal where the black live (diagramm says brown-green to switch, why is this wire black, thought black was earth) wire to the washer switch is also connected (green-black goes to pump) it sparks as if it is going to earth
I've been offered an SD1 switch from an ebay selle for £15 but need to know it is that component first. Geginning to wonder if there's a fault with the wiper motor or intermittent unit.
But this all started after I did the column bush so kind of think it's that area I;ve disturbed.

Circuit diagrams for the wash-wipe system here:

Note that it's almost impossible to test the delay module 'on the bench' as it needs the motor connected to allow the timing capacitors to discharge. You can meter the individual component values, of course, but that's about it.

Thanks Ian
Though I haven't even found the intermittent delay thing never mind test it.
Those diagrams are invaluable although some of the colours are different.
I'm going t have another look tonight
The wiper delay module is a black fag-packet sized box marked 'Pektron' and usually lives up around the wiper motor - may be cable-tied to the wiring loom nearby Though I haven't even found the intermittent delay thing never mind test it.

Brain picking time, I'm afraid
With the ignition on, I have live at 5 only
Nothing at 2 or 3
So initial thought was that the park "switch" is permanently live?
But if it was then 2&3 would be live too.
If I disconnect the brown/green from 3 and connect a secondary live lead there doesn't seem to be any difference.
THe 7 pin plug only has one live, the light green.brown

I assume by 2,3,5 etc. you mean the wiper connector?Brain picking time, I'm afraid

It sounds a lot like (especially as you've tried poking 12v into 3) that your wiper motor is not earthing. Try running a wire from terminal 1 to a known good ground?

Earthed terminal 1, [blue/green goes to the Hi on the wiper motor] no difference except the single speed seemed slower and when i switched to intermittent the 15A fuse blew.
If I haven't got power to 2 and 3, for some reason is this the problem and could there be a second fuse somewhere?
Or a break in the wire? Why a feed backwards via the intermittent unit?
Got me puzzled at the minute
BTW I asume the black panel on the bulkhead needs to be cut off to get to the wipr motor etc?
Thanks

Hi, you wont get to the wiper motor through that black plastic panel engine side of the bulkhead, the motor is up behind the fuse box in the glove box. The only thing you can just about get your fingers onto is the gear box under the wiper mount spigot protruding through the body, plus you can get to some wiring and the heater matrix pipe but there's a sheet of rubber in the way which you'll have to slice neatly, most of the back of the heater box is visible but not a great deal of help, I did mine thinking what you are thinking, ended up making a stainless steel panel to go back in its place with some insulating rubber on the back and some fibreglass insulation for added measure and screwed the plate in place so I could hide my marbles behind there! Access to the wiper motor is a dash board out job i'm afraid matey woolyEarthed terminal 1, [blue/green goes to the Hi on the wiper motor] no difference except the single speed seemed slower and when i switched to intermittent the 15A fuse blew.

Off the top of my head I'm sure there's only the one fuse for the wash/wipe.Or a break in the wire? Why a feed backwards via the intermittent unit?
You should have 12v at 2 & 3, are you sure your meter is getting a good earth reference?
With ignition on and wiper switch in the off position, poking 12v into terminal 1 (Blu/Grn) should give you fast wipe and into terminal 8 (Red/Grn) should give you slow wipe. If this works the motor is OK as is the wiring to it. what should happen is the fast wipe will run as long as you keep the feed on but the slow wipe should complete a full cycle and park after you remove the feed.
