Coffee Machines?

Sending out for help chaps, the wife would like a coffee machine for Christmas and as a non-caffeine drink consumer (of any kind) I'm a bit lost!

She used to spend a fortune in Costa on Lattees but with the arrival of an 8 week old in the house these trips have rather been curtailed!

What should I be looking at under about £80 and not of a massive size (save worktop space). Aid me coffee lovers of PH in my search!

I had an espresso from a Saeco Lavazza Amodo Mio in Selfridges last weekend, sadly it was better than my Nespresso machine . There seem to be deals on them too, so your £80 target is in reach.

I have a Nescafé Dolce Gusto which sounds like an Italian flatulence problem but actually makes good coffee, just don't ask for extra froth.

We got a daily deals type discount and paid £35

Nespresso Umilk. (i have the city and milk, slightly dearer)

around £170 but comes with a £70 credit to spend on coffee so machine works out at around £100.

produces consistant coffee.

for a pod machine its great but obviously can't beat the real thing.

Why the hate for Costa? Better than bloody Starbucks but I remember I'm not the one actually drinking the coffee!

Had one for the past 5 years can not fault it, boxes of coffee are about £3.50 a box gets you 16 capsules. 2 capsules for a latte, cappuccino one for milk and coffee.

I've got one at work, does a decent Costa impression, the hot chocolate is good too. The down side is the black coffees are pretty rank.

Argos are advertising 50% off Tassimo at the moment. Worth a look.

The Tassimo Costa coffee bears little resemblance to what you can buy in the Costa coffee shop.At £5 for 8 cups it ain't cheap either.

That's if all the milk capsules are intact-the ones I've opened recently have had one or 2 leaking having been squashed together during production or transit.

Nespresso with aeroccino is best for latte.

Yes, this!. Even an aeropress and decent pre-ground coffee beats Costa every time.

Really not a fan of Tassimo coffee. Nespresso is much better if you really wan't to go that way.

I gave my Tassimo away after being unable to find a coffee I liked black, I now use a Nespresso and while the coffee is superior the machine itself if light years behind the T65 Tassimo in technology. Basic things like "don't try and make a coffee if the water is too low to complete it" are forgotten and the water tank itself if tiny. It also takes an age to do a Lungo, great for smaller cups though.

My stove top Pezzetti from Sainsbury's (£14 for a 6 cup) still produces better results but obviously you have to go through the process of loading, heating and then cleaning.

Thirded! Easy cleaning as well. Not so good for making >1 cup, but neither is a pod machine.

For Larger quantities you can get a filter cone and glass jug combo.

Doesn't look as flash as a fancy machine, but easier and probably cheaper in the long run.

I get beans from the PHer who runs Smokey Barn.

I had a Tassimo when they were in cahoots with Starbucks until they fell out. how long will it be before Costa do the same..........
