Hello from Greece .

I am 35 and own an M3 e46. I dream of a caterham the last years.
5 years ago the dream could get true by ordering a Westfield from a dealer here in Greece. Lhd.
Unfortunately after 10 months of waiting I took back the deposit and cancelled the order, since the dealer was not serious.

I ended up with a lotus 111s , great experience , but not the one I dreamed of. I drove one Westfield for just 10 minutes I liked it much better.

Since then the dream is on, but still not came true.

I have found this on Greek adverts
http://www.car.gr/classifieds/cars/view/3625358/

I would like your opinion and I have some questions if possible to be answered .

1) is it an original caterham ?
2) do you think the price is right ? ( a new on in Greece is sold for about 35000 euros with registration plates... Price is high because of the difficulties of such vehicles to make registration plates + there is not many of them)
3) could this transformed to lld ?
4) I see that the windscreen is not fixed on the bonnet the same way as I see in the newer models. Is there a problem or a shine for not being originally ? I also see some side glasses ...
5) does this year caterham has the good rear axle ?
6) what should I check ?
7) what do I miss from the newer models ?

Thank you for your help, to make my dream come true.

The car you have linked to is a Westfield, NOT a Caterham.

No its a fake, I was with the ceo of Caterham Asia, today and he asked me for an easy way to spot a 'copy', I told him a few easy ways, is the side of seat area made of square tube?, is the side of the seat area horizontal? are the front top wish bones equilateral triangle?
Real caterhams, right back to the S2 lotus 7 we were looking at today up to the brand new roadsport he had just driven from the customs today, have round tubes for the side of the seat area, which is around 1inch higher at the front end, the front wish bones are right angle triangles, your Greek fails all these and has locost front suspension.
Be careful, I know some one who paid 30k pounds for a seven in Malaysia, with a lotus registration document
, but the car is prelitigation Wesfild

Thank you for the answers.

So it is a westie ...

What is your idea as a Westfield? Or should this topic moved to another section?

Do 1.6 liters produce 168 horsepower ?

Very unlikely indeed.

Definitely a Westfield and I think that is a Ford CVH engine making 168bhp very unlikely frown

You need to do a bit more homework if you are serious about buying a true Caterham 7 as opposed to a Sevenesque type car (of which there are many).

There are lots of books on the Seven and the Lotus 7 Club is a good resource for finding out more about these cars.

Thank you.

There are not many used cars in Greece of such type.

Maybe I will end up with Westfield.

Does anyone know if this is a wide body?

It isn't easy to see on the photos, but I don't think it is.

This is not a pre-lit Westfield, its a modern one. Looks like a wide body to me. Best place to ask is the Westfield Boardroom forum. You can post there for free I think.

Am I the only one waiting for bank account details to appear on this thread?

It's Westfield, and I'm pretty sure it's my Dad's old Westfield! How weird.

If it is, then it's 1992 SE narrow body, live rear axle car. When he owned it, it was rolling roaded @ 127bhp. Being a narrow body the cockpit is short, and being 6 foot+ I could not drive it!

If you can get the registration number from the tax disc (on the left side windscreen bracket) I can confirm.

It was sold a few years ago after standing for a while, for a lot less than 15,000 euro! It was a good car, built with brand new engine etc. The build was generally good - built by an engineer, I seem to remember, but the general trim fit/finish is not as good as a Caterham.

If you are 5foot 8inches (172cm) and 110kg, you may find it a tight car, and also head room tight with the roof up.

If I remember it sold for less than 3,000 euro, but it had been standing for a while, so needed some work. It was standing under cover, but not in a closed garage so the brake disc were very rusty etc. It's had a new roof since then too (and lost the doors), possibly had new carpet fitted (hard to see), so there will have been money spent on it.

As it was standing in the UK I would check the chassis well too for rust.

Is it really that difficult to import cars to Greece?
