Can't see a thread to post this in - please move if needed.

With a hat-tip to the bad parking thread, an incident today of real life crap driving.

I exited from the A303, which is more or less motorway speeds at this point, when I come against a guy driving up against me on the slip road yikes
http://goo.gl/maps/1fvO0
I slowed and through an open window told him he was on a slip road going the wrong way.
He kinda went "yeah, yeah" and as I passed he put his hazzards on !

I didn't hang around - but now think should I have done?
I could have reversed put hazards on and given him the chance to reverse or turn around, but that would have put me, wifey and my rear seat passenger at risk from another vehicle.

The bloke was younger than me (52) but seemed clueless - didn't seem to be able to do a quick turnaround.

Was I wrong not helping ?

What a bellend...

No, you weren't wrong to not help, your family is more important than a careless driver like that.

How people can end up going the wrong way on a sliproad is beyond me...

I saw similar on the A10 last week.. the tool was even indicating to turn left on to the main carriageway after going down the offslip...

No. Why have more injuries on his head.

Call to 999 might have been warranted though. With the CCTV cameras covering seemingly every metre of roads these days they could have watched and reacted accordingly.

Christ! I've driven the right way down there so many times. Meeting someone coming up would not be welcome. With the extended S bend towards the junction you may not even see him until way too late. Scary.

I nearly died in a van full of champagne on that slip road many years ago...

The worst piece of driving I ever saw was a wrinkly doing a 3-point turn and then driving the wrong way up a slip road that is about 3 feet wider than a single lane! I was travelling up the opposite carriageway, and left gaping at the stupidity.

Wow. The Corsa driver nearly caused a death (other than their own). Do you know if the Corsa was struck or if the lorry managed to dodge it (couldn't have been by much at any rate)?

From what I remember, the Corsa passenger side was run over by the rear wheels of the trailer. Amazingly the occupants survived.

Unless I'm mistaken, I'm sure I saw the Corsa get clipped by the artic.

Must be something about the A303!Missus was out on a driving lesson today when someone was coming around the double laned roundabout at Podimore the wrong way. ( they had come out the services and gone right around the R/A, luckily not being wiped out from anything travelling along the A303 westbound) and last week someone had come through the "no entry" at the Crewkerne junction which would of left them travelling east on the westbound carriageway had she not stopped them.

Sounds similar to something I saw once. On a dual carriageway near York there is two exits very close to each other ( Street View image). An S-Class driven by an old bloke went into the second slip road, stopped, turned around going into the outside lane and almost hitting me head on to go back to the first exit. I would probably guess that he wanted the second exit anyway as it actually leads somewhere.

Just for info in case some readers are not familiar with the video. It was a young girl who had recently passed her test, previously rear ended a beema, and after the incident, moaned at college she broke her fingernail in the accident on the A90, got that from the mouth of her sister whom I used to work with.

One point raised was that there were no "No Entry" signs to the slip road, if you drive over the bridge to access the southbound carriageway, the exit from the road she came down is on the right of the road, white lines badly worn. And there still is no "No Entry" signs there.

Lucky to be alive, and very lucky it wasnt in rush hour, it would have been carnage, its a fast road in the mornings.

The artic was carrying bags of cement as far as I recall, thank god it was pi$$ing down as it usually does up here biggrin

I was on the slip road off the M6 joining the M56. This is a fast bend with a junction off to the right to take the M56 east. I was heading west, so was the bloke in a Sprinter who had decided he wanted to go east instead having just passed the junction. He was reversing up the motorway on what at 70mph to all intent and purposes is a blind bend in the outside lane to take the turning he wanted.

I have never been so scared in all my life. Not only did I have to do an emergency stop from 70mph on a blind bend, I had to hope all the cars behind me could too and then watch as this complete fking idiot crossed not only the two lanes of the slip road he was on but the other two as well all in cartoonesque slow mo.

How do these people manage to muster enough blind luck to drive to a motorway without major accident where they can wreak their carnage?

Took the same slip road today and there was thankfully no sign of carnage.

I'd love to hear the story of how you nearly died in a van full of champagne...ears
And if you're from the area, we were on our way to the Dove Inn.

I drive up and down that road from Aberdeen to Dundee twice a week, a lot of it isn't lit so during the winter months accidents are common place but that....... That is something else, I mean, how totally fking stupid can someone be?

Did you see my earlier post by the way. Young girl, recently passed her test, already rear ended a beema, even so, still stupid.

When I first moved up,here the A90 was unlit right up to almost where it hits the BOD roundabout.

Pull up a sand bag and I'll tell you a war story...

Back in the late 80s I used to work for a well known wine warehouse chain. I'd gone from my branch in Salisbury up to Clapham to collect a load of champagne in preparation for the Christmas rush.

Coming back in a Citroen C15 van, over loaded a little with fizz, I launched down that slip road in the dark at maybe 80ish - yes, I know - as I made the first gentle left swing the van rolled right and the back end was aiming at stepping out. VERY bated breath and tiny adjustments to throttle and steering kept it in check. All I had to do then was stop before the T junction at the bottom.

I don't know the Dove Inn and now live much further west but I still haunt that road sometimes if I'm dropping off the 303 to head cross country to see the ancestors.
