CLK 320 Convertible won't convert!

My newly acquired CLK Convertible's soft top has the annoying dash signal "please close boot separater" either at the beginning of the sequence when I lift the "open" button or at the end when just the rear deck is still upright.It only opens fully about 1 in 10 times. Needless to say the boot separater is physically closed, so I'm assuming there's an intermittent fault on the switch/relay that isn't sending the "closed" signal to the dash's computer. Am I on the right lines and where is the switch/relay located?

The struts that hold the boot separator in place need replacing £60ish? from main dealer and a 5 minute job , the switch is located on the left hand side of the boot where the separator cover closes.you can hear the switch it click when you pull the cover back.
cheap fix is to attach 2 bungee cords to the separator and the 2 bolts under boot carpet these will hold the separator back in place
