Which bike to get
Discussion
hello
I used to be bigg into my bikes a few years ago, Dh was my forte and Ive never looked at xc
however, since I havnt rode for so long and things seem to have moved on so much! I have no idea whats good and whats not anymore!
Im after a good all round bike, something I can ride uphill aswell as down, and not be scared of breaking it if my balls grow back and I fancy a few jumps and skids
my budget is around £1000
new or second hand (id like new, but obviously id get more for my money with 2nd hand)
what do you guys recommend?
Matt

Build your own
Better value for money and that way you get the spec you want.
As an example I have built myself a 2009 Kona Stinky Air
Every part was brand new including frame set
When the bike was released, Kona was charging 3k for it
I built it to a higher spec and it cost me 1700
On another note, I used to be big into my DH and FR when I was younger (13 to 18) then I went to uni and needed the cash. Now that i have graduated and got a decent job I built my Kona and first time I went out, I did 90% of what I used to without any trouble.
If building is not an option, then your better off browsing on the used market. You would want an all mountain bike with air suspension. That way you can do some uphill and XC but have something strong enough to take jumps and drops (under 10ft).
If used is not your cup of tea, look at the bikes that use the same frame but charge more for better components.
For example, you could get a basic stinky for 1500 ish and top of the range for 3k. The frames are the same it is the components you pay for.
So that way you get a decent frame and upgrade parts as and when needed / funds allow.
Unfortunately I can't recommend a specific all mountain bike as I was never interested in anything other than free ride / downhill.
Hope this helps
