We've got 12 for Christmas dinner this year. Cooking it isn't too much of an issue but making sure I have enough for everybody is my greatest worry (My parents and sister are notoriously bad at not cooking enough food when inviting you over for Sunday lunch). The 12 breaks down into two children, 5 men, 5 women. I've ordered a 6kg Turkey to be collected on Xmas eve and our fruit and Veg man's Christmas eve offering is the following:

THE CHRISTMAS BOX!!

8lb of potatoes
3lb of carrots
2lb of parsnips
2lb of Brussel sprouts
1 head Broccoli
1 cauliflower
3 onions
1 iceberg lettuce
1 cucumber
6 tomatoes
1 head of Celery
6 apples
1 lb of white seedless grapes
8 clementines
5 bananas
1 bag of mixed nuts

In my mind that seems fine on the Veg front, although I think it's prudent to perhaps get him to stick an extra Broccoli and Cauliflower on the order as well?

Any thoughts out there, people experienced in cooking for a similar amount of people?

Caulis are st at the moment size wise judging by the last couple I've had. Get at least 2 if its a significant portion of the meal, especially for 12.

Cauliflower Cheese is also a really nice thing to have with all the other roast/boiled veg and easy to do/keep warm, its a good foil for rich gravy etc etc.

I made one for 4 adults and 2 (small as in 2 and 1) kids and we were scrimping on 1 head recently.

You need enough to make sure you can have some bubble and squeak the next day !

What are you going to eat for the rest of the week? biggrin That looks fine, cauliflower and broccoli cheese works well too if you fancy a change. The only thing I'll be adding is some chestnut stuffing and some sage and onion, as well as some bacon to fry the sprouts in lick
