Hi all, i've been looking at a newish GT-R, and one thing putting me off is the trip computer, which I admit sounds weird but bear with me.
According to the blurb, you can look back at the stats (g, speeds, mpg etc) of your most recent journey . Surely that means that if you stack it, the police can download the info and use it to prosecute you for dangerous driving if it shows you exceeding the speed limit. Does anyone know of anyone being done by this? Am I being paranoid? Presumably most moderns are afflicted with these more sophisticated trip computers. Thanks in advance for any input.

They'd need your permission to access the data or a warrant. Doubt it's ever happened for a road traffic offence...

My concern would be that if you stacked said GTR and it was to be a total loss, the Insurance companies checking the data stored to see if they could somehow use it to avoid paying out...

I was always under the impression that certain ECU modules can be interrogated to show speeds and other info around airbag deployments after crashes etc anyway. It's just not done due to the legalities of accessing the data and issues with having access to the right manufacturer software.

Its only indicated and it is not accurate, so any good brief would have it thrown out of court in a similar vein to speed guns with no recent evidence of calibration. My speedo is at least 7mph out against the sat nav but who knows which one is right?

If you that paranoid, then read up on the reset/clear procedure so you can clear it when required smile
