Curious that I've not seen any threads from owners of the new 660cc '160'. They seem like a laugh but are they a but of a folly? Are they likely to lose money do you think?

The magazines gave them reasonable reviews but since then all the hype has died down

I could be wrong, but I don't think the production run started that early so customer orders haven't been completed yet. I'm not sure there are any owners out there yet, or very few...

I think it'd be a good laugh though and is a clever step that will probably get people hooked on Caterham ownership and then they'll end up spending more on the more powerful models.

Apart from the usual sales stuff form Caterham I wouldn't say there has been any hype. What there has been is a number of road tests in Autocar, EVO, Octane etc . None has been especially effusive but all seem to have enjoyed this latest take on an old theme. It is winter as well and few people are going to drive their new toy until spring .

I'd wait until the spring to get any real feedback. Even if they deliver cars now, most people will be unlikely to use them in the cold, damp weather that we're currently experiencing...

Good point actually, I was expecting more immediate deliveries but I guess we'll start to see more in the spring. It's an interesting prospect really.

And by 'hype', I meant the general marketing hype surrounding a new car launch smile

I don't expect many 160s to sell in the mature UK market. It strikes me as a export product for introducing the 7 to new markets where there is no easy route into 7 ownership at the moment.

I think you'd be mad. Spend 10k on a 1.4SS and put skinny wheels on. Job done!

Exactly, mad in the UK, no s/h choice in other countries.

Im looking at buying one here in germany as the eco rules dont allow me many toys I can drive and park in city centres.
The 165 is purely for the export market to try and build up the brand abroad in readiness for the bigger sports cars in the future.

Firstly a complaint- I saw this thread last night and did a quick search to read reviews and ended up loosing an hour (or so) watching Caterham videos and reading threads... :-)

Anyway, didn't find much as others have said and while I've no idea what he's talking about this chap seems to be having a laugh- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUfcIJz3FU4

BTW- I rather like the look of the little steel wheels, harks nicely back to the Lotus7

hehe Sorry about that! I did the reverse... I was watching the videos and then started a thread wink

All going well I actually intend to enter the Caterham Academy for the 2015 season, I was curious about the 160 purely because it's cheap and with the narrow tyres it looks like a lot of fun
