Winter/cold weather tyres.
Discussion
I'm currently looking for some all weather tyres anticipating some ice and moderate snow up here. Any suggestions to fit my standard 19 inches on my DB9. Ones that may last until early summer. High performance not essential as I'm a bit steady. Can I mix front from back?
Tx. I know some other posts on this but not specific for me..

Pirelli Sotto Zero. Mine are going on this week if I can find the keys to the Range Rover to transport the rims/tyres down to the tyre shop. (So you can thank me for the heatwave over Christmas later...)
There's currently a set of four on eBay, at a purchase price of £1099, item number: 121078026920

What's the current opinion amongst the enlightened Astonaut on the best tyre for DB9 irrespective of winter/summer? Mine is due a new set of boots and given the mild winters here, the winter tyre route is not really necessary, so I'm after the best all rounder for grip and decent lifespan. Any suggestions?

I recently used my PSS shod V8V in temps of 2degC and less and it was very tail happy and prepared to spin up readily. It *never* did this on the Bridgestones I used previously unless on ice or packed snow (there was none of either this time). Pilot Super Sports (not PS2 or PS3 or PSSC), but PSS
Not a scary prospect per se as the traction control is very well judged. But surprising.
The only other thing I'm aware of that could have caused this was slightly out of whack tyre pressures (1psi or so).
It was bad enough that I thought something might be broken at the rear...
I still think they are great tyres. But you don't get something for nothing. I thought (and still do) longevity would suffer. It looks like cold weather performance and or tyre pressure sensitivity are a downside also...

They look exceptionally well done, may I ask where you had them done?thetees said:
Pirelli Sottozero are pretty much your only choice.
They are your only obvious choice, you can use Michelin Alpins, as they are the only other tyre make that will match front and rear sizes (in the sizes that I wanted), otherwise you can use some very good tyres, but you'll have to mix and match tyre makes and some people (including me to a certain extent) don't like to do that.Edited by MaverickV12 on Friday 13th December 06:46

Pilot SuperSports are a brave suggestion for cold weather tyres!
Was responding to the question by Russwhitehouse which specifically said "irrespective of winter/summer". I would never suggest PSS for winter cold weather use.Had a similar idea and got a pair of Trak Sport chains. Chosen as they are really easy to put on....just like the video!

I wonder if you can find 275's that accept studs?
You can of course stud a set of 275, its actually quite easy. You buy the studs seperately, with a screwgun ...... sorted..... (might want to practice on a cheap set first)
But I would ask why?
High tech winters such as Sotto's and Alpins, not to mention other such as Continentals etc are extremely good in the snow, indeed I would emphasis the word, "extremely", unless you're going to race the things through some Scandanavian Rally Stage, they will do all that you ask of them.....
You won't even need chains, you'll be amazed how good they are, and if you're in a situation where chains are essential, then you're in the wrong place with the wrong car...... unlss you're in say, France where you can be on Summers all the way to the Alps, then climb the mountains into the snow (still on summers) and use chains if it snows. But if you wear winters, you're going to get there safer as well......

IMHO ...... no wait ....... in my experience ........
