Should there be a zero DD limit?

I would be quite happy with zero and it seems to work well in other countries

Never going to stop the hard core DDers whatever is done

No.

The hardcore DD'ers will continue drinking, but it stops people being able to enjoy a couple of drinks over a meal then drive home - there are several gastropubs/restaurants I can think of in my local area which would probably close/see a large reduction in business.

No, far too restrictive. As it stands one can have a sociable drink and still drive home which for some people is the only viable option. I'd imagine most people exercise even greater caution when driving after a drink, which must all but make up for any drop off in reaction time/perception.

Why shouldnt it stop people having a couple of drinks before driving home nuts
Isnt that the problem - they have one, oh and another, oh ta very much

I cant see zero working though since just through eating normal stuff, youre likely to have more than zero

Depends, I'm 20 so I don't touch it at all if I'm driving as I know the risks are probably greater with myself than a 40 year old man.

On the other hand, I go to the pub with my dad most weekends while we wait for a Chinese and we'll have a couple of pints and then he'll drive home. It's too far to walk to the pub so if they brought in a zero tolerance limit then that would stop.

I think the limit is fine, people just need self-control if they're driving. When I'm out with my mates I tell myself I don't want one. If I change my mind then I'll drink all night and pay the premium for a taxi smile

A couple of pints is probably already over the existing limit though, especially if that's before eating anything.

No, because firstly plenty of non beverage things can give you an alcohol content. Plus, a drink is Ok.

I would say that if the drink driving numbers are rising then it may be linked to the fact that beer and wine strengths have been increasing?

Pretty hard to find a 3% beer in many urban bars. It's all 5%+ stuff.

I have to say that if I can only drink lager then I'll have it as a shandy when driving or not bother.

I thought zero was unrealistic, there are ways to have enough in your system not obtained through booze?

But near enough zero as is practicable, yes.

No, it's unrealistic and anyway, traces of alcohol aren't going to affect judgement.

As ever, the reply to this is "show us the evidence of people crashing with currently legal alcohol levels"

Is doesn't exist so far as I can see, the prangs seem to be people who are all sloshed and if introduced this would be used for lazy profiteering "easy pseudo law enforcement" against easy prey just going about our biz just like parking, speeding regulations etc

Maybe. Drinking affects people differently. I drink very rarely and even the smallest amount of alcohol gets me a bit wobbly.

This.

I'm strongly against criminalising a vast majority in a futile attempt to stop the stupid minority who won't care about the limit being zero anyway.

Thing is we are all different , i could prob tank 3-4 stellas and still blow under .
The mrs prob one tops .

You just dont know until its too late. So id rather mitigate the risk all together.

Ban it ,cant believe i said that .

Enforce the current limit properly, then see where we are. As has already been said, limits mean nothing to some people.

No, that isn't the problem.

Adults generally have good self-restraint, as demonstrated weekly by millions of them having a pub drink and driving home legally and safely. Making it lower will make negligible difference to road safety.

The ZERO would not be as it sounds because the zero setting would probably be a little above true zero to allow for what the body might produce naturally

The have a zero for non full licence holders in OZ and from looking at the TV programmes it seems to work well enough there

As its proven that even a small amount can affect driving then surely it makes sense ?

No stupid idea ! If you use a mouthwash you fail the test based on a zero value. A zero value also means no drinking the night before you drive. No Xmas pudding at that meal out !! Having a pint/equivalent is no worse than driving if you had a bad nights sleep or have a bit of a cold. It will penailse otherwise law abiding people and have zero effect on dangerous drivers. The current limit is fine , people go over because the chance of getting caught is almost zero. In over 30 years of driving I have been breathalized twice. Make it more likely you will get tested and people might think twice.
