Chaps,

TDV6 D3 MY08 58K on the clock.

'Engine Management Fault' warning came up the other day. Car felt very sluggish.

Took it to the Main Dealer yesterday and they've just called to say the turbo unit is fooked and one of the EGR sensors has gone too.

Thankfully I took the warranty out in March (£700!) as they're telling me it's a £3K+ job to replace and repair. All covered..phew!

So, if you get one of these (otherwise really tremendous) vehicles, make sure you bite the bullet and take a warranty. There are parts of them that are made of cheese...yikes

Turbo failure is sometimes just turbo actuator failure - but if you're not picking- up the tab...

OE Turbo is £900 and the EGR Valve is £160 so someone is getting screwed for £2k in labour bills for 3 hours work but who cares if it's not you. I'm amazed the warranty company are prepared to get shafted that badly though. They are not noted for being mugs.

I'm pretty astounded at those figures and the disparity between what the LR main dealer quoted and what can easily be costed for almost half on the web. Advanced Factors quoting £880 incl. VAT for the turbo. Why do so many dealers think we're all stupid?

Tbh, if i can't fix it with a hammer, i'm not interested usually. hehe

However, a £1500 bill was something i couldn't afford so it had to get fixed.

I did manage to sort out an electrical issue with the car by hammer. hehe

Never served in any forces so didn't learn it that way.

Built a kitcar, so things needed "gentle persuasion" to fit at times.... hehe

Sourced a re con turbo for my RR sport for £650 plus VAT from turbo technics. They supply all turbos to JLR.

Strangely, recon was 650 with two year warranty or I could have new for 900 with one year warranty?!

JLR apparently want to lift the body to change the turbo. My local Indy suggests changing them is an utter arse but can be done in 3 hours without body off.
