Mk1 Escort value
Discussion
A friend is selling his Mk1 Escort 2 door. Id really like it but im not to sure of the values to be honest. I know special and race pedigree cars command a lot of cash but im not to sure about normal cars.
Its a 73' Mk1 that's had a full engine out body respray and is described as "solid" Its not very standard at all. Its running a 2.1 pinto with 48's, 5 speed box and 3,54 rear axle. It looks tidy from photos but it doesn't really have any history. Only items original to the car is the shell really. So bearing that in mind, he was 5k for it.
I am looking at from the perspective that the millage doesn't really matter as there isn't anything left that's original and the engine certainly isn't standard. So its basically a kit car of sorts.
Im new to the ford section of PH, so i hope you dont mind me barging in with a request for advice.
Is it worth it? I think it is but then iv always wanted a Mk1 and an example with no body work to be done has got to be a bonus...No`?

If it's a good, solid, clean car, I would say that it's worth it. The prices or decent mk1 and mk2 escorts have gone through the roof and if you don't need to worry about the bodywork, you should be ok. Anything with an RS badge will be at least double that. Mechanical parts for these are still easy to get and relatively cheap.
At the end of the day a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it and if it makes you happy...
Think quick though, he probably won't have trouble selling it if you decide that it's not for you.
