Okay - I have been a bit remiss, and having gone out into the garage for the first time in a little while, I realised I forgot to plug in the Vantages trickle charger that I have always used when it is tucked away.

So I thought I better see to that and plug it in - however, I can't open the car... tried all 3 fobs and nothing, so I assume the battery is flat. Problem is, I don't have the skeleton key to even get in as the last owner couldn't locate it.

Any suggestions, short of shouting and swearing at myself, because I have already done that ??

Doesn't the key work? It did on my DB9.

I have 3 fobs, but no skeleton key. Meant to get round to getting one from the main dealer....

Go to the main dealer and get the skeleton key you've always wanted........can't think of anything more constructive, and you'd be killing two birds with one stone. As such.

Yep, was going to just go and get the skeleton key but they are saying they need the car to program the key to it, which makes no sense to me. It's just to open the door, why would it need to be chipped, and seeing as I can't get in the car, getting it there is rather an issue.

I'll phone them back to try and get some sense out of them.

If you have the key number, go to your local Ford dealer & get them to cut a key. You'll need V5 & identification I think.

If you open it with a non-chipped key, won't the alarm go off? Not sure if the Aston alarm has its own battery? My Porsche certainly did when I had this problem.

Got all this sorted. Lancaster at Sevenoaks were very good, and managed to get me a key the day after I got down there to show them the V5, etc. Originally I had been told it would take a 3 to 4 days.

Still, at £120 for a metal key, someone's getting less spent on their x-mas present.

Now I have the key, apparently I can go to a Ford dealer to get a spare cut, should I think it necessary. I guess that will be somewhat cheaper..

Exactly the same thing happened to me last week; went down to my local Aston Dealer, they then phoned the factory to get the key code for me, and then suggested I walked two doors down to the Ford garage to get a key cut as it would be much less expensive and faster. Cost £14 all-in - also bought a trickle charger to avoid it happening again...

Incidentally there is a way to charge the car without a key and all the doors, boot, bonnet locked, but it's a bit of a pain and requires a few tools, so a new key is the simpler option.

Horse has bolted, but its possible to jack it up and hook a jumper pack/battery charger to the starter motor terminal and the chassis in a tricky situation like this smile

.
Didn't realise I only needed the key code to be able to get a Ford key - oh well, the money's spent now.
