BMW M5 Parked up in street near me...

Need advice, there is a black M5 parked up on a quiet street near my house. Car appeared a week ago and seems to have not moved. Checked the reg and it comes up as 535d M sport, does look like an M5 with dual exit exhausts left and right. Rang local police who don't want to know as reg comes up as not stolen.....would do if on false plates. Might be me being paranoid...anyone have any ideas what to do?

I don't think it's a police matter, some people just have no taste and think it's fine to dress up a 535d.

Post some photos, theres enough BMW nerds on here that will be able to tell you if it is a real M5 or a dressed up derv.

Does the tax disk in it match the number plates?

If its taxed, MOTd and insured then there is no issue.

IF it's the car that the plates say it is, rather than a nicked M5 on cloned plates.

OP - if you really fancy getting all neighbourhood watch on it, then run the plate through http://www2.carparts-cat.com/autoxs/ecp.aspx?SID=8... and compare the VIN with what you're seeing on the visible VIN plate in the windscreen.

I live in area that is used to lay up stolen cars for a week or so to see if they have a tracker fitted, especially performance BMW's. This car just looks out of place, probably all legit but maybe someone has had their pride and joy stolen, and if by a very small chance I helped them to get it back then is that a problem?

I would check it over, as said all ready check tax and VIN from above link, if it was my M5 that had been stolen, I would want it back....

What about if it was in a lock up with no insurance and now the owner is 20k down.....

Anyone remember the thread a couple of months ago about the young lad who was defending his Dads car on here. He took a lot of stick from the PH mafia. That was a 535d pretending to be an M5,and I think it might have been black from memory.

Maybe his Dad has dumped it, couldn't live with the shame.

Or maybe it was white.

Join the police.

You could post the VIN (from the windscreen), or put the last 7 digits into RealOEM/BMWfans and see if it really is an M5. You can also check whether the reg on the 'tax' disc matches the reg plate.

If it is, then it might be on dodgy plates.

Or you could just ignore it!

Check the tax disc has the same reg as on the number plates.

Had a BMW appear across the road for me. Tax different from plate.

Phoned 101. Number plate was ok on PNC but the VRM on the tax disc (the genuine number for the car) came back as stolen.

Agreed, I'm amazed at the amount of times people reply to a stolen car thread with "hope you get it back"

I wouldn't want it back at all, after some low life scum has been ragging it about or having it registered as stolen recovered etc...

Dear OP

Dont panic, I think I understand

Your concern is that some scroats have thieved a BMW then stashed it somewhere neutral to see if it has a tracker before retrieving it to break/sell

They are clever enough to think of this but not clever enough to deactivate the tracker themselves

In the meantime the internet meanies are giving you a bad time
