Reposted this here as suggested.

Was looking at becoming a lorry driver.
If I'm right in thinking the age got lowered from 21 for a artic?

How much would I be expecting to pay for everything included?

Would use a local company.

Mdfiddies. I think.

i believe its 18 now , but unless your family own the haulage firm i dont think you have a chance until your 25 , insurance wont allow it

Yeah, at your age I would go sniffing about and see if anyone would hire me before I spent all of that money. Firms do hire drivers your age who have just got their license, I know because I have had to train you bds when you turn up here hehe

they look ok

You might need training for artic after the C+E test because they do C+E using a W&D and there are differences

To go from B to C+E you will need £3k handy in case of the odd retest

I suggest a trip to the trucknetuk site newbies forum and read the stickies near the top of that forum

I have seen more than one 19yr old driver apprenticed to a company not owned by his father.

It was rather rare though.

You are quite right, 21 is the "actual" age, but you can (like my brother did) and do it as of the age of 18. Initially a lot of people did not want to even entertain training him, but once all of the official paperwork arrived, no problem at all.

He even went on to do his artic test within the same year, so it can be done.

I however went down the uni route and so I have only just passed my artic test at the age of 23. biggrindriving

21 is not the current actual age - it is 18

UK law was changed on 09/09/2009 to fit in with EU law

I was talking to a driver a month or 2 ago, we were working for the same company but from different DC's, I asked him how old he was as I thought he looked really young, turns out he had just turned 20, he'd had his class 1 for a few months and had found an agency to take him on, I was surprised but it shows it can be done.
