Hey

Bought a new fuelpump, old one seems a bit noisy,
Are there some things to look out for?
Is it just ,take old one out and place new one?no danger off airlocks in fuelline?
Extra fuelfilter? this is new for me,

Thanks for advice

A lot of people add a pre-filter that catches the crud before it gets to the pump (the big bits that would damage it.)

Hi Adam…Out of interest is there a recommendation as to the best pre-filter or would just a clear one suffice?…Cheers…Ziga

Rudi trust you are well??

Straight forward off and on, I use good quality hose clamps to clamp off the lines. Check condition of the hoses and the jubilee clips while you are there and replace as needed. Change the filter at the same time. I made up some new rubber mounts for the pump clamp while mine was off so it was secure but had good suspension! Finally make sure the electrical connections are properly protected from the weather, and that the suppressor to ground has a good contact.

Job done!

I would fit a pre filter. I believe RT were selling metal filters for £20. Checking out the filters reveals different grade of filter papers within, worth checking.

Take a look at ebay idem 161062845493 - looks quite big, so will offer minimal resistance to the flow. What size are the pipes there - is 10mm inner diameter suitable?

Adam,

The hose (swirlpot to pump) is 5/8", available at marine stores. It is hard to find an inline fuel filter that size, without a lot of replumbing. I wonder how much of a restriction it would be to use a smaller size filter.

I originally fitted a "Bullit" filter (from Demon Tweeks)with a paper/cardboard element. When the fuel tank was less than half full this filter element not flow enough fuel for full power running. (engine was missfiring due to fuel starvation). The filter element was changed to a mesh (strainer) type and all was well.
The mesh element is sufficient to protect the fuel pump from "lumps" eg bits of rust coming from the fuel tank, and the usual fuel filter after the pump protects the injectors from fine particles.

PS
I also fitted an in line "ball type" isolating valve between the fuel tank/swirlpot and the mesh filter.
This is handy for checking the filter cleanliness without having to drain fuel from the tank.
