Hi all,

I booked a track day for this weekend at Donington and had a helmet sorted but my friend who was lending it to me has let me down. I have already paid for the day (non refundable now) and insurance etc so I am looking at alternatives.

I have been told by the organisers that there is a helmet hire place in Derby but they don't know they name. I have googled it but can't find anything. They don't hire helmets at the track.

I don't want to have to buy a helmet as this is my first track day and so before I commit any costs I want to make sure it's something I want to persue in the future.

Can you please recommend a place to hire helmets at short notice, preferably near Donington or South Manchester/ Central Manchester where I live.

Thanks

Matt

Surprised that the trackday organiser doesn't have helmets to hire.
Phone Donington circuit directly - they have a school there ( I think ) Ron Haslem bike experience is based their for sure. Someone will be able to rent you one

I called but they said the only place to go was a shop in Derby but they didn't know the name of it. I was surprised too.

I doubt many places hire helmets. Must be a local place doing CBT courses, they might rent you a helmet. Be an odd request for them though.

I think you are going to have to walk into a local bike clothing shop. And pay £100ish for a helmet with a gold sticker on the back, and then either keep it or flog it back to them/on ebay as 2nd hand.

OP - epic lurking

Mods - Thread should be in Track Days section.

You can't usually hire a helmet anywhere but from the track day organiser. This looks like one of DP's own events. Not hiring helmets isn't very clever if you're going for the novice market. I just noticed Bookatrack is there with their Caterhams for hire. The owner posts here, he might be along shortly.

Otherwise - You just need a cheap (£30+) open face helmet at the minimum. Your best bet is one from a scooter shop. Keep the tags and box and sell it on ebay. Don't take it back to the shop you bought it from. You might end up only £10 or £15 down. I think they are £10 to hire anyway.

I was in a similar position a couple of years ago and found that Tesco/Asda/Argos etc don't seem to stock them. Try Aldi/Lidl.

Failing that, ask the organiser to ask the other drivers in the safety briefing if anybody has a spare helmet. Embarrassing, but an option.

we can sort this for you. we'll be based from the end garages (37/38) and will have plenty of helmets available to hire (£10 per day). Speak to Harry or Danny.

I did a trackday there a few months ago - Can't remember the organiser (I thought the track would provide helmets?) and we rented a couple of them for the day, price wasn't too bad either from what I remember smile

I have just bought 2 helmets as I was running out of time. I might return them/ refuse delivery if I can hire them there. If you are hiring them out you really need to let the guys at Donnington to know as when I rang up they said they'd had a few enquiries about them. I just rang the general number on the Website.

Also, on the website it states that helmets are not available. If you are garaunteed to be there you should let them know as it's probably in your interest and will help out other novices coming for the first time
