Titanium HT or Old FS......
Discussion
What would you guys do.
I have an old Scott Genius MC50 which to be fair I haven't ridden properly in a while. I'm looking to resurrect it to use as a winter commuter but the frame is very soft and saps power for road use. I will use it off road but not so much that I need rear suspension.
I have the opportunity to buy an old Rock Lobster Titanium frameset from a friend. Do you think it would be worth swapping the frame? I'd have to either have it modified (£50 from a local from frame builder) or use a bracket of some kind for the rear disk.
Other than that and a front mech all parts should go straight over. Hmmm not sure what to do....
Thoughts.

By the time i'd bought a rear wheel (I have an almost new pair of crossmax discs) and a set of V brakes i'll have spend £50. The frame changes would be done by Venon Barker whos got a decent reputation for this kind of stuff.
And can you remember how rubbish v brakes were compared to discs.
I had thought about doing what you suggested though.

.
They aren't rubbish if they are set up right. Their major limitation during winter riding is that they become rubbish when you get muddy water all over the rims/pads. .
Regarding the disc mount issue, A2Z do a universal rear disc mount adapter which is held in by the rear hub quick release or an alternative version which also includes a mount to the original rear brake boss to.
Whoops. Not cross max. Cross ride. Very much more humble than the ever so pricey cross max. Sorry about that.
My thinking for the rear caliper is that it's only £50. Surly that's the best option.
Or is changing the frame a really bad idea?
Any idea what a genius mc50 frame would be worth?

All well, Ti and Crossmax would have made me so jealous I'd have exploded. Think I'm safe now. Thanks. My thinking for the rear caliper is that it's only £50. Surly that's the best option.

I'd have the appropriate mounts welded/brazed on if it were mine, but I'd also probably hedge my bets by having a tube of Ti welded between the chainstay and seatstay to ensure the force imparted by the caliper was shared between the two.
And I'd want the original brake mounts removed and the area tidied-up. I really dislike cable-operated brakes now I've been spoilt by hydraulics and I don't like extraneous lugs on my frame. A Ti frame is probably worth getting right.
