I'm still in a state of shock.. After paying £5,700 to the garage last night. Given it was for a total rebuild of a LR TD4 engine, new clutch and a minor electrical issue with the door! The invoice was on 4 pieces of A4

Make me feel better and tell me your largest repair bill...

Nearly £600 for some really rusted in shock absorbers and top mounts to be replaced including various sheared/rounded bolts sorting. Sorry, that probably didn't help smile. £5700 is fairly eek, presumably that's on a Freelander too? I didn't realise they were worth enough to justify that sort of expense, wouldn't a new/2nd hand engine have been cheaper?

I have to say that unless it's your pride and joy or the value of the car is a fair percentage higher than the £5700 that you've just paid, why on earth did you do it?!

For me... £600 for a water pump replacement.

It's not my pride and joy but it is worth £10k / £11k ,so yes it was worth fixing. Otherwise with a trashed engine it was virtually worthless.

My highest was £600 on a £550 car :S

I gave a local garage £1350 for some welding work on the Stag a few months ago...

I've had £1000 service bills in the past though from Mercedes biggrin

About £2k on the Elise.

Far too many £500 bills for my liking though, adds up when there are lots of them!!

Everytime I think I'm close to pressing the button on a 'fun car' I see something like this and it scares the bejeezers out of me!

Yeah it was a Freelander 2 TD4, LR wanted nearly £8000 just for a new engine, not including labour to remove and refit... Second hand engines are going for around £2000 - £3000, again no labour costs.

I used to have a 1988 911. I gave it to the garage as i'd just bought it and needed a service with the instruction to just do what needed to be done. I think i got off lightly with a £1700 bill.

I now feel less bad about my impending £500 on front end suspension rebuild and rear brakes/pads/bearings.
Was once quoted £350ish just to replace the rear beam mounting bushes on a Calibra.
About £10 for parts and the rest labour rofl

Just paid £700 odd to get my other half's people carrier through its MOT.

Had I known beforehand it was going to be as bad I'd have just bought her another car.
